highly encourage your students to format the subject line as follows “2024 SUMMER INTERN – Applicant’s Name – IUP COMM MEDIA”. And saying that you, Dr. P, or Jeremy Waltman referred them in the application form. That will give them the best chance of standing out.
A little background on us:
– We’re an independent game developer based in Atlanta named Banjo Toad Studio (LLC).
– We’re currently working on three projects, a small concept piece for a client in LA, a traditional “tabletop” board game for a client in Atlanta, and the big one–our own game–a pitch we’ve been working on since June of last year. A publisher out of the west coast picked us up and approved our budget and officially greenlit production to begin May 1st to run through the end of July / early August of this year. Yippee!
– The Team: There are four of us full-timers at the core–three of which are IUP alum–with a handful of contractors and part timers that come in as needed.
– Why game development? In 2023 when the strikes ground our film and television jobs to a halt, we needed something new. You’d be surprised how many of the skills are transferable from film and TV to the gaming industry. It helps having a couple contacts in the business as well.
What an internship with us could look like:
– Assisting in grassroots marketing campaigns. Creating and maintaining relationships with press, content creators, blogs, publishers, etc with updates on development and release of new games. Preparing memos, press releases, community updates, etc.
– Assisting in social media management, specifically on Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter
– Creating short-form content and promotional material (a familiarity with Premiere, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Indesign is a HUGE bonus)
– Developing the BanjoToadStudio website
The benefits of an internship with Banjo Toad Studio:

– Working remotely

– Low stress community environment
– We want you to get the most out of your internship, if you’re not happy with your responsibilities, workload, internship path, etc, we’ll work with you to find a place you’re most likely to learn and succeed.
– Real world knowledge and experience about professional production from “relatively” recent graduates working in the trenches.
Requirements:
– Consistent access to the internet
– Working computer and phone
– Knowledge or willingness to learn socials workflow and etiquette
– Knowledge of or willingness to learn Adobe Creative Suite
Recommendations:
– Being comfortable with Google Drive and Microsoft Office Suite
– Familiarity with web design
Best,

Donald Winzer
IUP Alum

Not Doing An Internship!

If you are not planning to complete an internship this summer, it is very important that you let Dr. Lenze know as soon as possible. You might be planning to complete your program in Media Studies without an internship or you may be planning to complete the internship in Summer 2025. Either way, please let Dr. Lenze know by sending him an email to jlenze@iup.edu.

This is URGENT.

If you are put into a waiting room, please be patient. Dr. Lenze will get to you. This is a special opportunity for those who can’t get to his regular office hours or his physical office to talk about internships. There are 19 days left to secure an internship offer. If you are struggling to find an internship or just want to talk about something related to internships, this is a great opportunity to conveniently talk to Dr. Lenze and get help!
It is not too late to find an internship!

Lost Internships

Unfortunately, students in the past have lost internships due to poor decisions in March. Events this weekend are well covered by the media. Students are interviewed and a lot of footage shows a irresponsible and, frankly, stupid behavior. Internship sites see this footage and, in some cases, the interns they have already selected, and reconsider.

On Monday, it is very likely that I will have students in my office telling me they have been notified that their internship site is no longer interested and they have lost the opportunity.

This is avoidable. Public drunkeness and rude behavior are not tolerated by society. Internship sites can cut relationships whenever they choose and do not need to state why. My advice is find a quiet place to spend the weekend either getting ready for an internship already in hand or looking for an internship to secure graduation.

I hope you all have a safe and profitable weekend.
