Summertime Sweetie

The heat along with the humidity in Pittsburgh, PA is rising!!! If it’s hot where you are too, don’t let the heat stop you from celebrating the sweetness of summertime. You can still dress your very best and not be a hot sweaty mess!

Going out into the sun is my favorite thing of all time. I truly can’t think of a better feeling than laying out by the pool or on the beach, soaking up the sun’s rays and seeing everyone out and about with their friends and families. But it’s not always that dandy and lovely being outside and facing the heat. Summertime is for graduation parties, picnics, and spending time with your loved ones for other outdoor activities. For these summer events, you may want to look nice but it’s almost impossible when you’re hot, sweaty, and sticky right?

A loose cotton romper (pictured above) could keep you looking cute and also hide your sweat! The flow of this romper allows your body to breathe and feel comfortable on the hottest of days. I paired this outfit with a semi floppy hat for the purpose of blocking the sun from my eyes and protecting my face from becoming oily and sweaty. Not to mention, the hat also adds detail and spice to the romper! I got the hat from my local dollar store and the romper is originally from Urban Outfitters (which is an extremely expensive store) but I purchased it from Marshalls for only $10!!

Hot Tamale

I like to have a handful of outfits that I save for special occasions, such as going out with friends or an event in town (I call these “going out clothes”). We all have outfits we have restrictions on with where we would wear them. For example, you wouldn’t want to wear anything that is revealing when going on an interview.

It seems as though every time I go shopping, I keep finding more and more outfits that are skimpy and way too revealing for my liking. There is no judgement to whatever styles people may like, but I am the type of girl who sticks to pretty much the full coverage. When shopping for going out clothes, I do like to find something that makes a statement but not something that reveals my body.

This red two piece outfit is not only making its statement but it is an outfit that anyone could pull off for many different occasions. The neckline of the top is a detail that makes the outfit classy yet still fun with there being no sleeves. The top is also slightly cropped so you can see a little bit of the stomach when you have it on, but the elastic waistbands pants are adjustable to where they fit most comfortably on your waist so hiding your stomach is possible. As I’ve stated in an earlier post, the versatility of two pieces are amazing! I have paired both the top and the bottoms with other articles of clothing and loved the results. Now I don’t know that I would wear this whole outfit for a business type setting (I wore this outfit for my 21st birthday), but I would wear either the pants or the top to work with a different piece of clothing.

If you know of anywhere that you can find more two-in-one business casual / going out outfits such as this red two piece, please comment in the comments section below! Don’t hesitate to ask any questions as well!

90’s Chick

I know my last post was about a pink dress but I found this gem in the back of my closet and wanted to share it with you all! It seems as though the styles our parents used to rock back in the day are making their comeback. It can be almost impossible to find a true 80’s or 90’s outfit in stores today. Most stores that have a retro vibe to them try to remake older clothing that was in style 20+ years ago but it’s just not the same.

Wanting to have the old school look but can’t find anything that fits into that category? Well every time I see a picture of my parents from when they were in high school, they always seemed to have the coolest outfits. I try to find something similar to what they wore but it’s usually a failure. Stores can try to copy the old school styles but it’s hard to do that without actually having some vintage material.

This pink dress holds a lot of sacred memories for both my mother and I. My mom wore this dress in the 90’s and said it was one of her favorites. A few months ago, I asked her if she had saved any business casual dresses that she used to wear to work and she pulled this out of her closet with a huge smile on her face. She said one of the last times she wore this dress, she found out she was pregnant with my brother! It brought back a lot of memories for her, and also made me hope that someday my future daughter might ask for my old clothes and I can pass this down to her.

So, a solution to wanting to find the true 90’s outfits is to ask your parents first if they saved any of their old clothing. Thrifting is also a good way to hunt for vintage clothing but asking your older family members is the best way. I guarantee they’ll be happy to see a next generation wearing the clothing they used to love and it hits close to home to carry on the tradition of style!

If you have any of your favorite vintage pieces you would like to share with me or any other solutions to finding old styles, please discuss them in the comments section below!

Please ask me any questions as well if you have them in the comments section.

The Irresistible Belt

The annoyance of having your pants sagging because they are too big is one struggle. Then, you go to put on your belt just to become even more annoyed that your belt doesn’t have a hole in the spot where you need one to be. You then take a pair of scissors and start stabbing at the belt, trying to force a hole into it.

It’s hard enough finding a good belt or a belt that you like right? It’s even harder trying to fight the battle of finding a belt that actually fits you. Poking and forcing holes into a leather belt is especially hard and also dangerous. Well, I am here to say, I have a solution for you all!

Ladies, let’s stop with the fussing over a belt that can’t be adjustable and find yourself a chain belt that can be clipped to any spot you desire. You can also wear chained belts with any outfit, such a dress like I have pictured here. The chained detail added a beautiful look to this outfit and spiced it up. If you used a chained belt on a pair of pants or shorts, you are able to place the clasp on any part of the chain that feels most comfortable to you! So, not only is it stylish and cute, but it’s also very useful and beneficial.

Lady in Silk

With age, our styles change. We look back at photos and wonder what the heck we were wearing and who let us leave the house looking like that. For some of us, changing our style drastically happens, but for most of us it’s a slow transition.

Just recently, I have taken a good look through my closet and noticed how almost everything I own is either rompers or random shirts. I also realized how I am growing a collection of business casual clothing and shying away from things I used to love that are making me wonder what I was ever thinking when I bought them. Although, it is thrilling to have some different pieces of clothing that make you feel out of your comfort zone because it’s fun wearing new things. As I’ve said before, I like to dress up when I go out but I don’t like to be revealing. Elegance is the new sexy.

This forest green dress is pure silk and is so comfortable to wear. I bought it for my friend’s birthday about a year ago and I am still absolutely in love with it. It is the type of dress that never goes out of style. I ordered it online from Fashion Nova and it arrived to my house in about 4 days! In my opinion, this color speaks elegance and although the style of the dress is obviously not meant for a business setting, it is classy for a night out. Exchanging the average “clubbing” dress-wear for some classier silk dresses could really make you feel more confident in your own skin.

If you gals have any ideas on how to keep your elegance while still looking feisty, or have any questions or comments, please write them in the comments section below.

Did Someone Say There’s a Concert?

It’s concert season!!! I am attending my first concert of the summer at the end of July and I have already started planning my outfit! I will be going to the Khalid concert (if you couldn’t have guessed). The reason I started planning my outfit very early was because I used to wait until the day of the concert and I would be frantically searching for something unique that I wanted to stand out in.

I know a lot of my girlfriends and I like to wear whatever fits the genre of the artist we are going to see. Khalid is an R&B singer so I paired a pair of camouflage cargo pants with a t-shirt I ordered from Amazon because it seemed to fit the vibe of his music. If you’re going to a country concert and it comes to the day of and you are wishing you had a pair of cowgirl boots and a cowgirl hat to rock, you might wish you had pre-planned your outfit so you could be prepared for the day.

A strategy I have gotten better at but have yet to fully learn, is to be more prepared and not to procrastinate as much. If you know you have an event coming up such as a concert, first browse through your own closet or a friend’s closet if they don’t mind and see what you have to work with. If you don’t find what you’re searching for, go thrift shopping and I’m sure you’ll find the perfect concert outfit that fits the look you are going for. Another reason I recommend pre-planning an outfit is because of alteration purposes. I ordered this t-shirt about a month ago because I plan to bleach and crop it. I want to do this ahead of time so I can make sure it turns out the way I like it and so I can have enough time to order a new one if it does not. I paid $13 for the shirt and a friend gave me these pair of pants, so overall I didn’t spend much money!

If you have any of your favorite concert outfits that you would like to share, or any questions, comments, or solutions, please write in the comments section below and I’ll be happy to get back to you!

Bless This Dress

Any of my tall girls have trouble finding dresses that don’t look like you’re trying to force a shirt into being a dress? Well me too. I have always been the tallest one in my group of friends and let me tell you, it’s a blessing and a curse. As you may already know, I love dresses but can’t always find my desired length.

Us girls love to browse through our friends’ closets and trade clothes. Especially on a night out, we all text each other and ask what everyones wearing. If it’s a night everyones feeling a dress, then we’re all asking to send pictures of options we can borrow from each other. Being the 5’8” friend amongst a group of 5’2′ friends, there really is no option to borrowing a dress.

A maxi dress is heaven sent. Not only does it feel like a huge nightgown when you put it on, but it also makes you feel beautiful. Wearing a maxi dress takes me back to prom in a way. The comfort and the length is perfect for us tall gals! I wore this specific maxi dress for a baby’s baptism and then again a few weeks later to lunch with some high school friends. It can be paired with heels or flats, whatever suites you, and for me it goes down to my ankles. The shoulder straps are adjustable ties that make a perfect detail to this wonderful maxi dress. It’s perfect for many different occasions and leaves me without the struggle of squeezing into a dress that is just simply too short for me.

Share with me in the comments section below any ideas or solutions to how to find dresses for taller women! Feel free to ask any questions as well.

Babydoll Pink

If you’re tired of wearing the same old style of cotton dresses, up your look with one made of corduroy! Is it just me or does putting on a dress automatically hold a new effect on the kind of day you’re going to have? I always feel like I can accomplish so many things and check off my to-do list when I’m feeling good in my outfit – especially a dress.

I have a handful of business casual dresses I wear for my internship and a handful of t-shirt dresses I wear to run errands in. I found it frustrating when I was going to a winery the other day and didn’t have any fun and flirty dresses to try on. I took a trip to Target and found this unique babydoll pink corduroy overall dress and fell in love!

The material of this dress is so comfortable and I love that you can pair whatever top you like to go underneath of it! I love the color for summer, spring, or fall as well! This dress allows you to add your own sense of extra style to it. I decided when I went to the winery to put this white tube top underneath because it was a very hot day and it looked best out of all the options I tried on. Don’t settle for the average dresses, find something unique such as this dress and you’ll be more satisfied with the look of your outfit!

If you have any other ideas, solutions, or questions about this dress or what might look best under it, feel free to leave any comments in the comments section below.

Hello Two Piece Set

I know I’m not the only one who forever wishes that I had a personal stylist to pick out my daily outfits… We all have our favorite tops and our favorite bottoms but sometimes can’t seem to find the other half to either of those things. Personally, I have so many articles of clothing I have never worn because I can’t find anything else in my closet that matches it. Who’s with me?

Let’s have a flashback moment…You go to pick out a new pair of pants to wear and suddenly you’re searching in your closet for a top, and nothing seems to look right (or vice versa). Been there quite a few times myself. Then you find yourself back at the mall or online frantically searching for what might look best with those pants. Hypothetically, you find yourself spending more money.

These past two summers, I have fell absolutely in love with two piece sets. I found that with buying two piece outfits, they not only go so perfectly together, but they also can be versatile with other articles of clothing. I have a few two piece outfits in my closet that make more of a statement than the one I have pictured above. For example, I have a bright yellow two piece outfit with flower designs on it. It is one of my favorites but because it is so memorable, I like to wear the top with other bottoms, or the bottoms with another top to change it up a bit. This white two piece is perfect for the summer time for not only the comfort of it, but also for how tan it makes your skin look!

I would love to hear from you if you have any other ideas/solutions/questions to wearing two piece sets or even where you like to get yours from! Please leave comments below!

Scrunchie Overload

Ever have days where you struggle between wanting your hair to be long and luscious and wanting to just cut it all off? I have had long hair for as long as I can remember but almost every single day I debate whether or not to cut it short. Sometimes we just crave a new and spunky look. New hair, new me, right?

Whether you’re driving with the windows down and can’t see the road with your hair blowing around in your face, or you’re having a rough day with taming your mane, or you’re just looking for some hair decor, it can be frustrating dealing with the agony of hair being in the way. Don’t get me wrong, I know us ladies all feel a little better about ourselves when we have nice hair. But having long hair can just be a pain sometimes. Especially when you want to pull it up but don’t want the crease that an elastic pony tail leaves in your hair when you take it out.

Save your hair from creasing or from being chopped off (if you know you’ll regret it a day later), with having a few scrunchies on deck! I have found the best results when swapping elastic pony tails with scrunchies. Not only are scrunchies an adorable look in your hair and come in many colors, but I also love the look of them around my wrist. I always keep one there just incase I’m having one of those days where I want to take a pair of scissors to my hair and just cut away. Elastic pony tails also give me quite a headache when I have to have my hair up for a long time, such as when I’m working as a waitress. Scrunchies are so comfortable and don’t pull on your hair! You can find scrunchies almost anywhere – whether it’s Walmart, Target, or online at different sites.

If you have any ideas or questions or want to share with me where you get your favorite scrunchies, please leave a comment in the comments section below!
