The Indiana Cares Campaign to End Homophobia (ICC) will kick
off its 7th annual LGBT Film Festival on Sunday, October 3rd
with a 6 PM showing of the gay comedy Violet
Tendencies. The festival is being held on each of the five Sunday evenings
in October. The location, once again, is Beard Auditorium in Stouffer Hall at
Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP.)
On October 10th, the eve of National “Coming Out” Day, the Festival
features A Marine Story, a drama based
on the real life experiences of lesbians in the military.
On the third Sunday, October 17, the feature film will be a
documentary titled 8: The Mormon Proposition.
This film reveals the behind-the-scenes
financial support of the Mormon Church in opposing gay marriage in California.
On October 24, the Festival continues with Purple Sea,
an Italian language film (English subtitles.) Based on a true story, the film explores the old-world European tradition
of women passing as men.
On the final night, October 31, the festival will offer a
double feature: Undertow and Is It Just Me? The first film won a
major award at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. It is a Spanish language
film set in Peru.
The Festival closes with a romantic comedy about gay men who meet online.
Several selected short films, including Rockin’ the Rainbow; Do Not
Bend; The Queen; Hens and Chicks; The
Best Is Yet to Come; and Last Call
will be shown before the feature films during the first four weeks.
There is no admission charge; donations are accepted. The
Indiana LBGT Film Festival is made possible with funding from various
departments and organizations at IUP, PFLAG of Indiana, and ICC, and with the
support of individual donors.
