What’s in a Name?

Apart from the different glass series, there can be a series within a series all due to the colors of the names of each character. As an example, the 1973 Looney Tunes glasses I’m collecting can have the character’s names in either black or white paint. The problem is that there are two different glasses of the same character, all thanks to the different name colors. So, we’re all asking, “Why is this bad?” Well, here’s why.

From my collection, the left glass is in black paint, the right one is in white paint.

A good set will have all the glasses in only one color, black or white. For some glasses, one color is harder to find than the other. However, it is different for each glass. So, if one glass is harder to find in black print, another glass could be harder to find in white. Completing a perfect collection just became that much harder. Here’s what one can do.

The first option is to decide to collect all in one color. When doing so, do the research on them and have the patience to look for them all, as it will probably be a long search. Buying each specific glass all online is a choice but be prepared to pay a heftier price. Buying a mixture of black and white names and not worrying about building the perfect collection is the other option, and that’s okay too.

I personally made a set from both colors. I didn’t care that the colors were different. I just wanted to make a full set of characters. But since I now know some are harder to find in one color, I will keep a look out for them. I may run into a different glass out there, but I won’t overspend just to complete another set. Maybe one day I’ll have a complete set of each black names and white names. Part of the fun of collecting is the hunt.
