An Undergraduate Paper-writing Competition

On the theme of

“How Jane Austen Has Changed My Life”

 Prizes:

            1st place — $200 plus entry to the Jane Austen Festival of Pittsburgh, March 12, 2011.

            2nd place — $100 plus entry to the Jane Austen Festival of Pittsburgh, March 12, 2011.

            Honorable Mention – a Jane Austen-related book.

Rules:

All entrants must be students (part- or full-time) currently enrolled in an undergraduate college or university program.

 

Maximum length is 8 pages (2,000 words) typed and double spaced.

Jane Austen Festival of Pittsburgh

 

The Pittsburgh Chapter of the Jane Austen Society of North America is thrilled to sponsor a day-long Jane Austen Festival and Assembly Ball on Saturday, March 12, 2011.  This inaugural event will take place at the Pittsburgh Athletic Association, a private and historic club in the heart of the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh. 

 

The day will be dedicated to celebrating and examining the work of Jane Austen.  Speakers will include: Joan Klingel Ray, Professor of English and President’s Teaching Scholar at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, and author of Jane Austen for Dummies;  Gaelen Foley, NY Times bestselling author of fifteen adventure-filled historical romances set in the Regency period;  Linda Troost and Sayre Greenfield, Professors of English and editors of Jane Austen in Hollywood;  and Carol Chernega, first International Visitor for the Jane Austen Society of North America to Jane Austen’s home, Chawton.
