The Take Back the Night Foundation serves to create safe communities and respectful relationships through awareness events and initiatives. They seek to end sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, sexual abuse, and all other forms of sexual violence (takebackthenight.org). The Haven Project works toward this initiative at IUP by hosting an annual Take Back the Night March and Speak Out event to help empower victims and survivors, raise awareness of these crimes, unite together to take a stand against violence, and to offer resources and support for those who need it. Please note the first Take Back The Night volunteer meeting scheduled for Thursday, February 23rd, 2017 beginning at 7:00pm to 8:00pm in the Humanities and Social Sciences building, Room HSS126. Please forward this information to any and all students that you may think would be interested in attending this meeting.
IUP’s Take Back the Night consists of a march through the IUP campus, where participants demonstrate that they do not want to see violence in our community. The march is followed by a powerful survivor speak-out, which offers survivors of violence an opportunity to their stories of strength and healing. The Haven Project is looking for volunteers who would like to become trained about these initiatives and help with Take Back the Night.
The training will be on: Thursday, February 23rd, 2017 from 6:00-8:00pm in HSS Room 126.
Volunteer duties include helping to spread the word on social media, hanging flyers, chalking around campus, helping to set up the event, leading chants, passing out resources, and more. More information will be provided at the meeting.
If you have questions about this event or cannot attend the volunteer meeting but want to volunteer, email haven-project@iup.edu.
