IUP students are eligible to compete for two study abroad scholarships.
One is given by the College Language Association, and is named for our late colleague Dr. Caroll Mills Young, who was instrumental in establishing this scholarship. The other is given by the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. Applicants must submit a letter of acceptance to a study abroad program, or a statement that they have applied for acceptance into a program.
The CLA Study Abroad Scholarship has a competition deadline of October 3, 2016, for study abroad in the winter term or spring semester of 2017. This scholarship also has a deadline of February 6, 2017 for study abroad in the summer or fall terms of 2017.
Winners of the CLA Study Abroad Scholarship receive $1,000, which is applied directly to their study abroad bill. Both undergraduate and graduate students may compete for this as long as they will be studying abroad with a program. The eligibility requirements, competition guidelines, and application documents are found at www.clascholars.org, under the drop-down menu “Awards” on the link “ Study Abroad.” Dr. Marveta Ryan-Sams (mmryan@iup.edu) can serve as a CLA sponsor for any applicant.
Winners of the Study Abroad Grant from the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi also receive $1,000 for expenses related to study abroad. This competition is only open to undergraduate students meeting the eligibility requirements. The eligibility requirements and competition guidelines are posted at www.phikappaphi.org, under Awards, on the link for Study Abroad(A new application will likely be posted later in the semester.) The application deadline will likely be February 15, 2017 for students traveling between May 1 and November 30, 2017.
