Interested in a free Masters degree or paid summer internship? The Memphis Teacher Residency (MTR) is a teacher training program similar to Teach for America. The three major differences are that MTR offers a free Masters degree in Urban Education, provides a stipend that covers rent for housing, and puts residents through one year in a classroom with a mentor teacher and coaching support before being placed into their own classrooms. You don’t need to be an education major in your undergrad to apply for MTR! Completing the program gets you a Tennessee teaching license. Attend the informational meeting on October 3, 2016 in Ruddock Hall G-12 at 6:00pm.
MTR also offers a paid summer internship called MTR Camp. This internship brings college students from all over the country to Memphis to run an academic summer camp for rising 1st through 3rd graders in two high need elementary schools in Memphis. This internship is 5 weeks, pays a stipend, and provides free housing. It is a great way to get teaching experience and get exposure to the world of urban education.
