What Counts as an Honors Elective?

The H elective can be met in a number of ways.

1. You can take a course offered by a departmental honors program. Econ and History allow HC students to take an H section of their majors only course.)
2. You can also substitute a 3 credit non dual-listed graduate course for H
elective credit.  (6 graduate credits can be taken by any student at IUP without special
permission)
3. You can take an H independent study or H thesis. See Honors College Curricular webpage for details: http://www.iup.edu/honors/page.aspx?id=96115&linkidentifier=id&itemid=96115
4. You can also count a significant study abroad experience of more than 3
weeks for H elective credit.

5. You can take an H section of an non-departmental honors program course.  (ENGL 202 H for example).

If you choose numbers 2, 3, or 4, you will need to petition the Honors Curriculum Committee for approval.
Email kevinb@iup.edu for details.

I’ll post all the Fall 2012 H courses in the WhitWeekly and send out an
email notification prior to scheduling.

Reminder: You don’t need to take HNRC 499 or LBST 499 if you will graduate after August 2012.
