The Killam Fellowships Program offers American undergraduate students the opportunity to spend either one semester or a full academic year as an exchange student in Canada. The fellowship carries a value of $5,000 per semester, and includes health insurance for the duration of the exchange. The program also includes a three-day seminar in Ottawa (Canada’s capital) and Washington, DC, and additional funding to explore other parts of Canada. Eligibility Requirements
o U.S. citizenship
o Full-time undergraduate student in good standing at an accredited degree-granting American institution, in any field of study
o Eligible for study abroad, meeting the eligible requirements and regulations of the home university
o Proficiency in English (Proficiency in French is required to study at Francophone universities)
o Superior academic record (There is no GPA requirement, although an impressive GPA will strengthen any application)
o Able to complete all steps of the application process prior to the published deadlines
o Nominated by the home university (only in the instance of the direct exchange program)
Selection Process
o Applicants should be recommended by their home institution or should apply directly to the program
o Applications are reviewed by an independent adjudication committee, normally comprised of faculty members from Canadian
and American universities
o Selection is open and competitive, based on a combination of academic standing, personal statements, and letters of reference
o The Foundation recognizes that excellence is found in all linguistic, ethnic and religious groups without regard for gender, age,
sexual preference or race. The Killam Fellowship Program encourages applications from all interested and eligible candidates
