How to get the most out of dance class

Whether it is your first or tenth dance class every single one is an opportunity to learn and grow. Dance class is the chance to learn and express yourself. You need to be able to free your mind and solely focus on the class and your dancing.

Not every class is easy and sometimes that can be frustrating. It is easy to get down on yourself in a particularly hard class and start having negative thoughts about your abilities. Watching other dancers excel and taking corrections from your teacher can be difficult.

Teachers always want you to know that they are there to help you learn, grow and be the best dancer you can be. They want to see you exceed just as much as you want to. Keeping that in mind, stay positive! When the teacher gives you a correction, take that as a compliment that they care about you and want to see you improve.

If you watch other dancers excel do not get down on yourself if you cannot do the same thing. Watch the other dancers and learn from the way they are moving. If you see something you like about their dancing, try to do it yourself. Finally, remember we don’t all learn at the same rate or have the same natural ability. Focus on improving you, by coming to class ready to learn.
