Biography

Tanner Carl is currently an Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) senior with a BA in English Writing Studies. He attended the departmental graduation ceremony last May. He was named valedictorian of the English BA program. He will officially graduate at the end of the Summer 2019 semester.

Tanner had a poem of his published in a collection. As part of a high school project, he had to write a poem with the theme of patriotism. It was then submitted to a contest where it would have the chance of publication. Titled When I Gaze, it was published in The America Library of Poetry’s book Eloquence 2015 Poetry Collection.

He was presented the William Betts Senior Scholar for Academic Achievement and Outstanding Internship for 2018-19. He has also won various awards for his writing while at IUP. Through the New Growth Arts Review’s contest, he won Second Place in Play and Screenwriting, Third Place for the Linda Haldeman Short Fiction, and Honorable Mention in Creative Non-Fiction.

When he’s not doing school work, he enjoys reading fiction novels. His favorite series is Redwall. He loves watching old-school cartoons (that’s where his hobby for collecting Looney Tunes glasses started). He also enjoys hanging out with his friends and spending time with his family, whether it’s traveling to flea markets, taking day trips where they see where they end up, or just spending time together playing board games or watching movies.
