Computer Science is a constantly growing field that currently has 1.97 million people in the workforce. However, this field is not right for everyone because there a couple crucial skills needed to succeed in this profession. The first useful skill is a good attention for detail. Learning to program is an important aspect of computer science and programming has a large focus on its details. A lot of the problems that people run into when programming come from simple errors that are easy to miss. Having a good attention to details will allow you to spot these problems much faster, which can save you a lot of time in the long run. Similar to this, patience is a practical skill for people involved in computer science. Searching for sources of error in code can be very frustrating when you’re unable to distinguish where you have gone wrong. With patience, you will take the time to find your sources of error and fully comprehend the content, which will benefit your career in the future. The last important skill is the ability to easily communicate with others. Whenever you run into an issue, whether it be coding or understanding concepts, your best resource could be one of your colleagues. Communication skills will also come in handy once you enter the workforce because many occupations require you to work in teams to accomplish goals in a quick amount of time.
