What can you do with a degree in Computer Science?

Getting a degree in computer science can be a difficult task, however, it can bring you many opportunities. To get this degree, you will need to learn multiple different programming languages as well as the inner workings of computers. This may sound intimidating, but the rewards of hard work will lead to multiple opportunities.

You could get involved in cybersecurity, which deals with protecting computers from theft or damage to their software and hardware as well as ensuring the protection of confidential data.

You could also use a degree to get a job in software engineering, which is a person who writes code for computers that allows the machine to execute functions and run properly. Software engineering jobs can be front-end and back-end jobs, meaning you could either be designing the program that the user directly interacts with or you could be dealing with the actual operating system of the computer, which most users will not even know exists. An example of a position in the front end is an Application Software Developer and a position involved in the back-end is called a System Software Developer.

Other front-end jobs you could get include a Multimedia Programmer, which is a programmer that designs and creates multimedia products for their employersOr, if you are more interested in the back end, then a job as a Data Engineer, which is a person who develops and maintains databases and data processing systems. 

These are only a few choices among the many jobs that exist for people with computer science degrees and there are more jobs being created in this field every day. The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that there will be a 12% increase in job opportunities in computer and information technology from now until 2028.1 With the increasing amount of opportunities, you’re likely to find a job in this field for you.
