NFL Fanbase Traditions

Fans love seeing the game being played the most, but the atmosphere presented by the crowd and the passion showed by the fans is what gives the NFL meaning. Typically, all NFL fans have one team that they would consider their favorite. Fans will invest their hard-earned money and time to support their team. And NFL fanbases almost serve as a cult to some of these extremely loyal fans. Today, I am going to talk about some of the most loyal/toxic fanbases around the league and how they impact the game as a whole.

One of the strongest fanbases in the league has to be the Pittsburgh Steelers. These fans are extremely loyal and passionate about their well-achieving history after winning six super bowls. Steelers fans wave around bright yellow towels called “terrible towels” during home games which creates an intimidating image for the opponent. Another very strong fanbase comes from the Green Bay Packers. these fans are extremely loyal and never cause any issues with the opposing team during home games. A lot of fans like to wear “cheeseheads” on their heads to represent the Packers and the cheese state of Wisconsin.

Despite there being a lot of strong and harmless fan bases, there are a few fanbases that are unloyal, threatening, and overall toxic towards their team and the league. For starters a fanbase that is loved/hated around the world comes from the Dallas Cowboys, They have been classified as “America’s team” since the 1960s with their enormous stadium, nice facilities, entertaining players, and their cheerleaders. They currently serve as the largest fan base across the entire league, but some of these fans are not loyal. A lot of fans will run coaches and players out of town if they are not doing well and talk bad about the entire organization. I feel as if some fans are in it just for the entertainment as opposed to the actual game. And probably the most toxic fanbase has to come from the Philadelphia Eagles. These fans are absolutely ruthless and show no sympathy for the opposing team or fans. They booed Santa clause and threw snowballs at the players after losing a game on Christmas day back in the 1980s, and it still hasn’t got better. They are not afraid to speak their opinions on social media and pose offensive threats to players who had a bad performance during a game or season. They constantly talk badly on their team and it’s pretty sad to see.

NFL fanbases can impact a game in so many different ways. They can be loud and energetic which makes it hard for the opposing team to get snap counts and call plays. the Seattle Seahawks are best known for that being that their stadium is called the “12th man” which refers to the fans. Chants can build momentum for a team and get them fired up during the game. Players absolutely love and adore fan support. Sound effects made by the speakers in the stadium also impact crowd enthusiasm which has a direct impact on the game. Fans typically have two jobs when their team is playing at home: disrupt the opposing team and cheer for their team.

Be sure to comment on this post if you want to voice your opinion on this topic. I love the support fanbases provide to their team. Unfortunately, most teams can only allow limited capacity in their stadiums due to covid restrictions. But this will all change when covid is over. I leave you guys with a few questions: Who is your favorite fanbase? Do fans directly impact games? What fanbases are the most toxic towards your team?

if you guys have any questions or concerns regarding this post, make sure to ask them! This topic is widely talked about around the league constantly, so I’m excited to see what you all have to say. As always, make sure to like and subscribe if you haven’t done so already and tune into tomorrow as I talk about how penalties have changed and impacted the NFL over the past few years. Have a great day guys!
