The last two weeks, we were preparing for the Vintage Affair event and also finalizing paper work. As things have started to cool down, I have now been introduced to the detailed information of Lifesteps. Today, I worked with Alyson. She gave me a community relations folder and covered the information of all the programs Lifesteps offers in all its counties.

Today, I learned that Lifesteps offers programs to children, adults, families, and seniors. For children, Lifesteps offers a pre-K Counts program that provides families with a free high quality preschool program. Lifesteps Early Head Start is another program offered for children. This program is for low-income families that have children from birth to 3 years old, helping them get an early start in their education.

The adult programs serve only adults with special needs. The three programs offered are Adult Training Facilities, Residential Living, and Employment services. The Training Facilities offers adults everyday skills like learning how to cook if physically capable. Residential Living is an opportunity for adults to live independently while learning how to take care of themselves. Finally, the Employment services assists adults in their process of finding a job and keeping one for a longer period of time.

One important program Lifesteps offers to families is the Family Care Mobile Resource Library. Some of the resources found in the Mobile Library are free such as Developmental/Autism Screening Service and information on Crisis Intervention.

Finally, the seniors program offered by Lifesteps is called Adults Day Health Services. It is for adults who are 60 years or older. Services for the seniors include nutritious lunches and snacks served daily, personal care services, and daily activities. This program is medically monitored by a registered nurse to help keep the seniors healthy throughout the day.

There was a lot of information that Alyson went over today and I now have a good understanding of the Lifesteps programs. For tomorrow, I need to prepare for a meeting with Cassandra Kokoski. We will discuss projects that I can complete this summer to help me meet the goals of the MS in Strategic Communication at IUP. I want to start working on tasks or assignments that allow me to use the knowledge of successfully planning a well thought out campaign and not just working on executing it.
