The older I get the more I see how women are seen and treated like objects. We have come a long way in our society to gain more respect and opportunities, but there is a lot that is holding us back. To this day women can not do a lot of normal tasks or activities without being sexualized. We are not just a body to be used and tossed to the side.
The idea that women do everything to cater to men’s ideas and fantasies needs to be demolished. Some women cannot even breastfeed their children because it is seen as inappropriate. We should not have to do activities differently just because men cannot control themselves. We have to realize that we are not inherently inappropriate or sexual and we don’t need to change what we do daily because of men.
It’s hard to fix this issue when we cannot change how men think or react. We can only be there for each other to make one another feel safe and comfortable. There is so much we can do to make things easier for the women around us.
Due to men sexualizing us we can be put in uncomfortable situations. I ask you to speak up if you see this happening to another woman. Whether she is being catcalled, followed, or yelled at we need to be there for each other. When this happens to women it is scary and having someone by our side makes us feel not alone. It’s a scary situation to speak up or stand your ground but if we stick together we can create a safe environment for each other. If anything happens to you or you feel you are in danger the link below is the National Sexual Assault Hotline.
When these things happen to us it can make us not want to do certain things or wear certain outfits. We need to remind one another that we are not doing or wearing anything for anyone’s entertainment. Put that outfit back on, go out with your friends, or go for that run in the park because we are not here for men’s enjoyment. When we see that we have support and a safe environment to confide in we can do these things without fear in the back of our heads. Do you have any topic suggestions for me?To help make a change share this post with women you know.
