After I walked in the door this morning, Stephanie dropped by to say that she, Michelle, and I would be heading to a meeting on the IUP Free Speech project in a few minutes. Shortly thereafter, we went over to Michelle’s office. There, I was briefed on the history of the program and the purpose of the meeting. The point was for the committee members to decide how to close out the year and to institutionalize the program moving forward. I listened, while they discussed a documentary to close out the year, as well as various platforms for IUP to discuss free speech moving forward. It was interesting to hear the committee members discuss what each option would cost.
I learned some new names today and got to see how our department, Marketing and Communications, interacts with another university group; in this case the committee for the free speech project. I didn’t say much but observed how the members related to one another and worked together to produce a plan for the chair to take to the university president.
After the meeting, I headed back to Sutton Hall with Michelle and got to work on my ongoing project to get IUP in touch with media outlets across the state. Today’s efforts were mostly centered around identifying TV stations and contacts in Philadelphia county. Moving forward, it would probably be a good idea for me to polish Allegheny County a bit more and run it by Stephanie to get some feedback.
