Ever thought what causes procrastination for college students? There are many things that play a huge factor into that role. College students deal with many different emotions. College can be very overwhelming for some people. To the point that it makes them want to drop out of school. Essentially, this topic is important to me because it’s something a lot of my peers go through. Attending Indiana University of Pa; I can take you inside the mind of a college student. 

Why do students procrastinate in college? Students procrastinate in college because of a lack of motivation, fear of failure, poor organizing skills, trouble concentrating, etc. According to (Google.com) An estimated 25 to 75% of college students procrastinate on academic work. One 2007 study found that  80 to 95% of college students procrastinated on a regular basis, particularly when it came to completing assignments and coursework. Most college students underestimate the time that it will take to complete an assignment. One of the biggest factors contributing to procrastination is the notion that students have to feel inspired or motivated to work on a task at a particular moment.

Approaches to solving procrastination for college students would be creating a planner. Creating a planner would help you because you can put all the tasks you need to complete inside them. Also, you can always go back and look to it if you forget something. Another approach would be to stop waiting until the very last minute to complete your assignments. Underestimating the time to complete your tasks can be very harmful. To the point that it will impact your grades severely. 

For me, I believe students should break down the things they need to do. Complete each task one at a time. Keep your mind focused. You can’t do any work if you don’t know what assignments need to be completed. Invest in a planner or start using the calendar app on your phone. This makes it much easier to keep track of individual assignments and important due dates. It’s important to rid yourself of all potential disruptions before you begin working so you don’t get needlessly sidetracked halfway through your task. If you tend to spend too much time on Snapchat or Instagram when you should be studying, then shut your phone off completely.
