Sunday, May 28th — 4 hours

At 3 pm, I began to compile information for the case study. I had taken photos of our price lists–which I uploaded onto a page and created a link for. I also created the section for job descriptions of the Adoptions Counselors, and the section for my site supervisor’s career history. After finishing up those sections around 6:15 pm, I uploaded the work logs from the previous work week. I finished for the day around 7 pm.

Friday, May 26th – 7 hours

Fridays and Saturdays are our busiest adoptions days, so I shadowed Crystal from 1 pm to about 5 pm, since there were no available computers for me to upload photos with.  After the rush died down a bit, and a computer became available, I worked on taking photos of the cats and kittens and uploading them onto the site. Some of the cats were not cooperative and tried to escape the cages when I went to take photos of them, so I put that aside, and continued to shadow Crystal from about 6:30 pm to 8 pm when I left.

Thursday, May 25th – 6 hours

At 11 am, I checked the PSPCA website for animals that did not have great photographs, and went around to the rooms to photograph them while the new animal transports were being seen by the vets and having their cages cleaned. For example, Dorito and Shoo were two cats that had already had photographs taken, but I decided to re-do them for the website to try and appeal to potential adopters. I finished uploading the photos to PetPoint around  12, and then worked on photographing the new cats, like Jacob. I then uploaded some more animals on to PetFinder with all of the pertinent information and created bios for them based on our Behaviorists’ evaluation notes and my own observations. Around 2 pm, I began to input behavior and health information onto PetPoint for adopted animals until I left at 5 pm.

At 11 am, I compiled a list of cats and kittens that needed photographs for PetPoint and the PSPCA website. We had a transport come in the night before, so there were many cats that needed to have their photos taken. I noted the locations of each of the animals and took photos of them. Some of the animals were either sleeping, having their cages cleaned, or were being seen by the vets, so I uploaded the photos I had already taken while I waited on the others.  Around 1 pm, I was asked to take photos of a few kittens that had come in and were being transported to an event with the Philadelphia Phillies. After I uploaded their photos, I updated their information with their new “Baseball themed” names. I then continued to take photos of other cats. At 3 pm, I did a walk through of the Greenhouse–where we keep the dogs–and checked that each dog was in the kennel indicated on PetPoint. I made a note of any dog that had changed locations and edited them on the system. I worked on inputting health and behavior memos for adopted animals on PetPoint until I left at 5 pm.

Sunday, May 21st — 4 hours

Around 2:30 pm,  I continued to work on the layout of my portfolio. I created links for the case study, internship review, internship experience, and marketing strategy. I wrote the introductory paragraphs for each of the sections, as well as formatted the font and text to be cohesive with the other pages. Around 5:45 pm, I started uploading the logs from my previous work week and finished for the day around 6:30 pm.

Saturday, May 20th – 7 hours

At 10 am, I compiled a list of new cats and kittens that needed photographs by checking the website and cross-referencing their A#s on PetPoint. Around 10:45 am, I went around to each cat room and photographed the cats I had on my list. I then uploaded them onto PetPoint and onto the PSPCA website. At noon, a couple came to meet Paris, a Coonhound I had photographed and uploaded onto PetFinder the day before. Crystal and I took Paris out to a dog run and spent about 30 minutes with the adopters as they got to know her. We then went ahead and began to process Paris’ adoption. I helped Crystal with the process to be able to help other Adoptions Counselors on busy days and to be able to answer basic customer questions about animals and the whole adoptions process. Paris’ adoption was finished around 3:30 pm. I worked on updating the website by creating memos for behavior information and health information of adopted animals until I left at 5 pm.

Friday, May 19th — 7 hours

At 1 pm, Crystal and I took Louie C.K., a pit bull mix, to one of the dog runs to take photos of him. After, we took out a Coonhound, Paris, to also have her photo taken. Around 2 pm, I downloaded the photos and was showed how to upload them onto PetPoint–which then uploads them directly to the PSPCA official website. Afterwards, I created a page on PetFinder for both Louie C.K. and Paris, where I wrote small bios based on what I had observed and the behavior notes provided to me by the Behaviorists on staff. At 4:30 pm, I checked the website and compiled a list of cats and kittens that needed to have their photos taken and added to the website. I continued to work on this until I left at 8 pm.

Thursday, May 18th — 7 hours

At 11 am, I again met with Jenn, the Volunteer Coordinator, for “orientation”. I was given a few forms to read over and sign, and we went over rules, expectations, and other important information. I was also given a volunteer t-shirt to wear as part of the expected dress. At 12 pm, I went out to a dog run with Deanne to meet Louie, a year old retriever mix, who had recently arrived at the PSPCA. I was asked to interact with Louie and make observations about his temperament and mannerisms. After meeting Louie, I was asked to make a post about him on PetFinder and include some of what I had just observed for potential adopters. The rest of the day, I shadowed Crystal, an adoptions counselor, to learn how to update and maintain PetPoint–which is basically the PSPCA infromation database.

Wednesday, May 17th — 1 hour

I arrived at the PSPCA at 1 p.m. to touch base with my supervisor, Deanne, after having been abroad for the spring semester. We created my schedule and worked out the hours, so that I would be able to complete the number of required hours before my end date on August 10th. After establishing the schedule, I was introduced to the Volunteer Coordinator, Jenn–who I was to report to the next day for “orientation”. After meeting with Jenn, Deanne gave me a tour of the facilities, including the dog and cat rooms, cat and dog intake, shelter hospital, the dog runs, the warehouse, and the barn–where we currently have horses. We were done by 2 p.m.

Sunday, May 14th — 3 hours

At 1 pm, I began creating my Wix website for my final project. I worked on editing the layout to meet my needs, and created the three tabs–home, portfolio, and contact me. I wrote the bio for my home page, as well as added the photo and changed the color of the overall layout. I also created this iblog, where I will be logging my hours and daily tasks at the end of each work week. I finished up for the day around 4 pm.
