Setting dance goals

It is important for everyone in life to set goals including dancers. It is a way to monitor progress and make sure that you are always growing. Everyone once in a while dancers need to set new long and short term goals.

When faced with that challenge of personal evaluation it might help you strive to achieve more. On the other hand, you might start to wonder, why you are not always hitting your goals. Then your mind starts to go crazy with the super negative thoughts. It can be frustrating trying to get around these struggles.

Pick categories for your goals that are most important to you and add a few that you think will be good for your overall wellbeing. Now, start to set your goals for your 3 month, 6 month, 1 year, and 5 year vision. Don’t let yourself be held back by the idea that your goals should be “attainable” or “realistic”. As dancers, we can be so aware of the flaws that we’re not always open to our full potential or possibility. Definitely dare to dream and be as objective as possible.

I think goals seem less daunting when you break your goals down into smaller action steps and work towards them each day. Keep a journal to chart your progress you can journal at a pace that works for you whether it is once a day or once a month, to help you get any limiting beliefs out of your head. You may not achieve them all, but taking serious action will get you closer to your goals and achieving smaller steps and having little victories will motivate you to continue.
