The Importance of Research

Doing research on glasses to buy is an important step for every beginning collector. It will enlighten beginners on the different makes of glass, their values, their rarity, the set it belongs to, and a whole lot more. When beginning, start with the Internet. It is the best tool for the job. Or is it? There are many websites on the World Wide Web to read from, but how can we tell if the information provided is trustworthy at first glance?

The main obstacle that anyone will come across is the people who created each website. When searching expert collectors, remember that that isn’t the only type of person out there. We’ll find some whose knowledge is very limited in this area. It could be a twelve-year-old who only posts pictures. Then there is that one who would price them on how HE sees them, not their actual value. The online market eBay does show what people are selling the glasses for, thus showing what one might pay for them. However, each person is looking for a profit, so their asking price could be high. So, what is a person to do?

Researching collections (“More People Are Researching Products Online Before They Buy”).

A possible solution is to search the web for information. Reading multiple pages to obtain a general understanding of collecting is a good idea. Instead of reading multiple websites, there are guidebooks on drinking glasses on sites like Amazon or eBay. This would help solve the problem of trustworthiness, but it would need to be purchased to use it, and, depending on the book, it could be outdated, as prices fluctuate frequently. Try starting with eBay for pricing purposes, but as I said, each person wants a profit.

I suggest using multiple websites to gather your information, to see the differing thoughts of multiple people. This might help show how much others want to make and help us to get an average price so we could possibly haggle for a lower price. By viewing many sites, we start to learn if someone knows what they’re talking about or not. They will know a broader range of subjects than someone who just says they look cool.
