Top 3 most underrated positions in the NFL

In order for a team to be successful, all 22 positions on an NFL team need to equally contribute and excel at their responsibility. Successful teams typically have solid candidates at each position. And some positions receive a lot more attention than others such as quarterback and wide receiver. But some positions don’t receive nearly as much attention and praise as they should despite being crucial to helping a team succeed. Today, I will be discussing my top 3 most underrated positions in the NFL that don’t receive the recognition that they should.

A position that is severely underrated has to be the center. The center is fully responsible for ensuring that the ball gets to the quarterback without any errors. They typically are the cpatins of the offensive line and call out any adjustments or shifts made by the defense so that the other lineman can react to it. Centers are in the middle of everything so they are typically obligated to have to block multiple defenders at once which is very hard to do. They are never highlighted in the media simpym because they don’t post any statistics, but still have a huge impact on how an offense runs. Some of the most notable centers that have excelled at their Job include Jason Kelce and Alex Mack

A position that is constantly criticized and takes a lot of patience to excel at has to be cornerback. Cornerbacks have one of the hardest positions being that they have to cover wide receivers who are some of the best athletes in the world. They typically have a separate zone of the field that they are responsible for and are blamed if anyone gets outside of their zone. This position is constantly criticized by the media if they are underperforming and letting wide receivers excel. They don’t necessarily receive the recognition they deserve for being arguable the most important part of a defense and maybe even a team.

The last position that is very underrated in my eyes has to be fullback. Fullbacks have multiple repsobilities including catching the ball as well as blocking for the running back. Not too many teams utilize fullbacks often, but they are a crucial part in establishing a running game and generating points for an offense. They are typically used in short yardage situations. They are repsobile for having to block linebackers which isn’t a very easy task. They almost are never mentioned in the media and are very unappreciated in the NFL. And this new style of pass-heavy offense in today’s generation of football can incorporate fullbacks to create different schemes in an offense. Some notable fllbacks in the league currently are James Develin and Anthony Sherman.
