The “It Is What It Is” Mindset

There are things in life that we have control over, and then there are things we have no control over. The opinions and actions of other people are the most obvious. While you may have some influence on people, what they choose to do is ultimately up to them. The film industry, like any industry, can be ruthless. Sometimes, no matter how much you prepare, work, study or learn, there is no guarantee that you will be chosen for a position or role. While that sounds like utter horse crap, and it is, that’s just the world we live in. However, the mindset you have can change the way you view things. If you don’t get the job you may hate that employer or hate the world that you weren’t chosen, or you realize that there is nothing more you could’ve done and you move on becoming a better person because of it. That mindset is called the “It is what it is” mindset. When you accept that there are things in life you can’t control and you stop worrying, stressing, and letting it control your life and your emotions, you will become so much happier. I know when I personally went through some tough times, I spent so much time trying to figure out how it happened, why it happened, and how I could’ve prevented it. Now while it is good to evaluate your mistakes and make sure they don’t happen again, if you try to evaluate someone else’s decision or actions, you will put yourself in a dark hole that is extremely hard to get out of.
