Blog 2: Chapter 7, Empress of the Blues

Chapter 7 talks about Bessie Smith, the Empress of blues. I thought it was very interesting that her songs were only recorded once, without the written lyrics and without practice. That takes a lot of talent to only record something once. They talked about how loud and strong her voice was. She did not need any amplification for everyone to hear her sing. I like that everyone gave her so much credit for being a different race. She must’ve been an amazing artist for getting so much credit in 1920’s for her singing, mainly because she was a woman and African American. Bessie passed away at the age of 43 in a car accident. I thought she was a very influencial woman to our world.
