The most important aspect in broadcasting is teamwork. By using the people around you to complete tasks, and jobs not only makes things easier, but it’s also more rewarding in the end. You become very close to the people around you, and you turn into a family. It’s pretty cool to have worked with different companies and see how each one works so well with each other. They know each others strengths and weaknesses, where they come from, different things about there families, what they like to eat, and much more. It’s great to see how close everyone is in a working environment. Now that’s not to say some people don’t start to get on your nerves, which they will. But it’s important to stay professional with people, and work through your differences. That’s what make everybody so close.
I see a lot here at IUP where students “hate group projects”. It’s important that if you want to work in this field that you learn how to do group work. Not only does group work take a load off your shoulder if you delegate the work onto others, but it also feels good to work as a team. You get to toss around different ideas to come up with the best possible project to present. It might not always be the easiest because there is always a slacker in the group, but that’s going to happen for the rest of your life. There’s always going to be someone who won’t work as hard, but it’s important to understand that the work you put in will be noticed. There might be someone on your team who might help you get a job someday, or will vouch for you when you need it most. Never put forth less than your absolute best, and you will always feel good about the project you finish with.
The harder a team works together, the better the end project will be. I work with one other person creating graphics for the upcoming football season here at IUP. It’s awesome when we each toss graphical ideas around, and work as a team to put them together. We have made some graphics that look like they were produced by a team of 10 people, but we did it with just the two of us. This upcoming football season should be the best we’ve ever had graphically, and it’s an awesome feeling knowing I worked as a team to make it happen.
