What is Social Media Marketing?

Social Media Marketing is a way companies use social media platforms to build their brands over the internet. Sure, it may sound silly to some of you, but in the reality of things, this is the new way for companies to reach, interact and get attention to their target audiences. Social Media Marketing wasn’t really big until Facebook was invented, before than the most commonly used place to find any sort of electronic marketing was through the early stages of E-mail and blogs in the early 2000’s.

If you are like me, you probably have social media accounts with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube and so on. On all these sites you see big name companies that all have accounts linked to them. Chances are you follow a good amount of business’s/ companies you enjoy or support. A example of this may be “Nike”. Nike is very active on all social media platform. Whether they are releasing a new shoe or have Lebron James advertising a pair of shorts, they are using social media platforms to ensure that you see their products on your news feed, and encourage you to share/like their postings.

All major companies have been using social media marketing to their benefit, “or should be by now if they knew what was good for them”. Companies use their accounts to spread brand awareness, increase sales, exposure to new customers, interact with customers and to create more traffic to their websites/account pages. The biggest factor in what makes Social Media Marketing the best way to market your products in my opinion is that it’s all free.

Years and years companies have had to pay for advertising to reach a extended target audiences, but now thats changed. Companies used to do advertisements like billboards, paper ads, radio commercials and tv commercials all at a pretty penny for exposure. Now-a-days with the right amount of exposure you can get more views on your advertisements online than any other form of advertisements today.

Social Media Marketing is on the rise and will not stop as long as the websites continue”which they will”. Its a whole new branch of marketing your company that just evolved within the last 20 years. It seems pretty crazy, but the way our society is built today, Social Media Marketing will only be on the rise for years to come.

How and why Social Media Campaigns Are Successful.

Social Media Campaigns are going on everyday before our eyes, whether we realize it or not. Social Media has played a huge roll in the advertising market over the past twenty or so years. Its FREE advertising essentially, unless they pay the social networking companies for sponsorships to display their products on peoples news feeds.

The key to a companies success when doing social media campaigns is to attract their main target audience. One of the biggest social media campaigns that has effected the way people do social media campaigns was a combined effort between Doritos and Taco Bell back in 2012. These companies are a prime example of how social media marketing works over social media web sites to draw attention to a new product. Doritos and Taco Bell collaborated to make the Doritos Loco Taco in 2012, and by 2013 they had sold over 1 billion of their new product. If you recall, “cause I for sure do” all the ads on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram regarding these companies collaboration product. Using that as a example of one of the better social media campaigns to happen in America, something we were all familiar with. You can see how just buy targeting social media target audiences how much success can be created.

How do companies create success with social media campaigns? Well, it gives them a great opportunity to have a chance to interact with their consumers through social media and engage with their comments and what not. Using social media companies can often increase their website traffic, sales and builds brand awareness/loyalty. Being able to share, comment, direct message content from a companies account is what they are looking for. Its like Nike releasing a new pair of Jordan 1’s shoes, and they display a picture of them on twitter with the caption “Coming soon July 30th” sneaker heads all over the world are going to be sharing that post to the point it will pop up on anybody’s timeline, even if they aren’t a fan of Nike.

Much can be said about this topic, but in the end Social Media Marketing is a great way for companies to expand, create and develop new relationships with their customers and increase their sales with the proper marketing tactics for their target audiences.

How do companies interact with their customers through Social Media?

Social Media is all over in todays world. There are many different social media platforms that we have lived through in our life time, but which of these platforms offer the best publicity for companies to consumers? We all know the popular webpages used today like Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and many more that all have millions and millions of users everyday, but how do these social media platforms help business’s grow for the better?

Using websites like Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube you can find almost all of your most popular brands/companies pages and see the information they release. So, if you are a CEO of a major corporation/company creating a social media platform account can enhance the target audiences you are trying to reach. The great thing about social media is how connected everything is. When I say connected I’m speaking in reference to the communication between the client and the customer.

Twitter is a great social media platform that allows you to interact with each other through tweets, direct messaging, commenting, favoriting and retweeting content from other peoples linked accounts. For companies on Twitter the most important thing to take advantage of  is the interaction with their consumer base. Twitter and Facebook are similar in ways that it’s easy to communicate with your target audience, while keeping a professional profile as you are representing a company. Platforms such as Instagram and YouTube are very beneficial also, but just in a more visual perspective than Twitter and Facebook. Instagram and YouTube use pictures and videos as their way of communicating to their target audiences. It’s almost like a display of what you are trying to release to the world just in visual rather than a text, but using these sites you are also able to comment and message on companies content, hence interacting with them.

How Do Blogs Differ From Other Social Media Platforms?

First, I want to get started by explaining what a blog really is. A blog in my eyes is like an online journal used to discuss topics or ideas that the creator choses to display to their target audience. A blog is generally ran by one person, which makes things interesting because you know the source the writings are coming from. In many cases popular blog users ask their target audiences for topics that they would like to talk about in their next blog to keep the content going and keeping their readers engaged. With social media platform postings, I feel aren’t as valuable in the long run. I state this for the fact that when you tweet/post something that it can be lost in seconds and get left to be buried in the newsfeed without as many views as you would of hoped for. Using a Blog you have the opposite problem and don’t have to worry about your writings getting buried under other users tweets/posts. Instead your writings from the blog will be there to stay for as long as you would like holding them more valuable then social media posts.

The biggest differences between the two in my eyes is the communication aspect when using blogs and social media. With social media platforms you can interact, comment, direct message and do many other different things to communicate to other users using that platform. With blogs its only the writer and their target audience they are attracting. The communication with blogs is genuinely people or the blog creator sharing the link to the website the blog appears on. This link would be shared using social media in majority of the cases.

Is Social Media The New Wave For News?

Ahh the life of a 23 year old living in 2020. Everything that is happening today you can find whats going on through social media platforms. It’s almost like its the first source of information regarding new news that happens everyday. You log onto Twitter, Facebook or Instagram and immediately find out 10 things new that have happened today regarding things happening in the world. In todays world, these social media platforms are practically the 6 o’clock news in the 90’s. Everyone logs on and can find out whats going on across the globe.

Its crazy to think all this is actually the norm now, but it is. I log onto any social media platform, and just about every time I will come across some political news, celebrity news, sports related news and so much more. All organizations at this point are/ should be on social media. An example would be “IUP’s Twitter page”. I can see updates about IUP whenever I want through social media, but I can pretty much do this with anything and everything with just a quick search.

Anything that is trending in the news, sports, politics and anything else you can possibly think of is on social media being talked about by thousands of people over the globe. It’s crazy to think I can type in Trump into twitters search bar, and can literally see anyone thats tweeted about him ever. Big platforms like twitter is a news hotline. They are always trending topics that are going on in todays society and make it even easier to follow then some TV news stations. I truly believe that social media is the new norm for people to keep up to date with daily news, instead of watching TV for hours. With just a few words you can find anything trending in the world through a search engine. It’s crazy, but this is 2020.
