In the first quarter of the Wildcard game Carson Wentz gets injured again. He was tackled hard from behind and landed hard on his head. From the looks of the hit initially it looked dirty. Carson was escorted to the medical tent for evaluation. Then headed over to the locker room. He was diagnosed with a concussion. And was out the remainder of the game.
Backup quarterback Josh McCown comes into the game was dealt with a difficult task. Josh McCown has been in the league for over 15 years. At 40 years years he’s playing in his first ever playoff game. Josh McCown is the 1st player in NFL history to make his postseason debut at 40 years old. Prior to the game the oldest player in the NFL to make their postseason debut was Ben Agajanion for the Giants in 1956. He was 37 years old.
This season the Philadelphia Eagles showed heart and grit. They had multiple starters on both sides of the ball out for the season. Such as both their starting wide receivers, running back, offensive tackle, etc. So this game would be nothing new this have never seen before. First the offense was kind of stagnant with Josh McCown coming in. The Eagles dominated time of possession with over 33 minutes opposed to Seattle 26 minutes. But Seattle’s defense showed up big time. They sacked the eagles quarterback 7 times and made them struggle on offense. They only put up 9 total points in the game.
Russell Wilson showed why he’s an elite quarterback in the NFL. He torched the Philadelphia Eagles secondary. Throwing all over the field on them. His favorite target throughout the game was rookie wide receiver DJ Metcalf. DJ Metcalf finished the game with setting the rookie debut record of 7 catches, 160 yards, and a touchdown. The Philadelphia Eagles cornerbacks were too small to match up against him. Russell Wilson found the match ups he wanted and executed against Philadelphia. Russell Wilson finished the game with 325 passing yards, no turnovers and a touchdown. He also had 9 rushes for 45 yards. He’s such an elite quarterback because he can beat you with his arms or legs.
In conclusion, I believe this overall season was a success for the Philadelphia Eagles. They started the season 5-7 but finished 9-7. They finished number one in the division. Defeating the Dallas Cowboys. All season this team was faced with adversity. Injury after injury and this team kept fighting. The Eagles always believed in next man up. Greg Ward Jr, Miles Sanders, and Boston Scott were rookies and practice squad players. But they stepped up for Doug Pederson and made the playoffs.
