Why does it cost more to eat healthy than unhealthy?

Have you wondered why it cost so much to eat healthy? There is a huge economic rate of obesity and people being overweight including children. There are so many fast food places in America and not enough Whole Foods. This is important because the leading cause of obesity and overweight is because it’s cheaper to eat unhealthy than healthy.

Many people assert that unhealthy eating habits are the result of economic hardship. People say that healthful food is simply more expensive than unhealthful food. According to (NationalPost.com)  Eating a healthy diet vs unhealthy one costs about $1.50 more a day, which might not sound like much, but works out to more than $2,000 more per year on the average family of four grocery bill, a new study suggests. The level of eating conditions does play a huge role within your income. Parents are quick to buy their child a happy meal because it’s more affordable.

A way to resolve this issue would essentially be to lower the price of healthy eating. Also, families should learn how to budget their money more when grocery shopping to create better eating habits. There should also be more healthier food choices from these fast food restaurants menus. More healthier choices for kids to choose from.

I didn’t know that eating healthy only costs $1.50 more a day than unhealthy eating. I think people should budget their income better to create healthier eating habits. If society created better opportunities for people to eat better; there would be less obesity and overweight children.  Healthier food menus would be essential also. Inner city neighborhoods should also have more healthier choices for people to choose from.

Do you think $2,000 more per year to eat healthy is reasonable? Do you think fast food restaurants need more healthier food choices? If eating healthy was cheaper than eating unhealthy, do you think obesity would be more limited? Would you pay $1.50 more per day to eat healthy? Please let me know what you think.
