MJ or Lebron: who is better?

To any basketball fan, this is a topic that has almost become a nuisance in the sports world. Who is better Michael Jordan or Lebron James? Both players are without a doubt two of the best to ever step foot on the hardwood. Michael Jordan has captivated an entire generation in the 90s with 6 NBA finals victories has acquainted himself with many as being the greatest of all time (GOAT). To many of the younger NBA fans, Lebron James has proven his case to them through a variety of statistical records that won’t soon be broken as well as 10 trips to the finals. Both players have done amazing things throughout their respective careers, and this debate has gone on for quite some time, and most times it ends with many saying Jordan is the GOAT. Has anything changed?

In the past, I have seen Lebron James take inferior teams to the finals, like the 2018 Cleveland Cavaliers who did not have a single other all-star on the team. I have also seen Lebron James shrink away in the biggest moments with a loaded team, look no further than his 2011 loss to the Dallas Mavericks. Lebron was heavily favored to win those finals with one of the best teams ever assembled, but could not come through when they needed him to. Lebron has developed and grown his killer mentality as the years have gone on, but many who swear Lebron is best seem to forget the process of learning he had to go through. While Lebron has taken the second most trips to the NBA finals with 10, he has the most championship losses at 6. Some of those squads Lebron should have lead to victory. There is no excuse in my eyes losing to the Mavericks and the San Antonio Spurs. Even though they are good teams, the Miami Heat had Lebron in his prime, an older but still all-star in Dwyane Wade, and another all-star in Chris Bosh.

What can Lebron do to win this debate? Some analysts will tell you there is no possible way Lebron could beat Jordan and his perfect 6-0 record in the Finals. Some analysts say that he has already surpassed Jordan. The only way I could see Lebron Pass Michael Jordan would be if he leads the Lakers to three more finals victories. This would put Lebron’s final count at 7, and he would have performed higher than any player ever at that point in their career.

This will never happen. My recommendation to Lebron and his followers is to be satisfied with his career and his accomplishments. Quit trying to compare these two iconic players. They both played in very different eras and had to endure different roadblocks on the way to victory. Lebron will likely go down as the second-best player ever when he is done playing. Eventually, as Jordan’s witnesses to his greatness start to pass on, there will be a time where many may call Lebron the GOAT years from now.

What do you think? Is Jordan the GOAT? Can Lebron catch his legacy? Let me know what you think in the comment section.

Is Bradley Beal’s talent being wasted?

It is no mystery to any NBA fan that Bradley Beal is a big-time performer. Last season the Washington Wizards shooting guard averaged around 30 points a game, and somehow did not make the all-star team. That might have something to do with the fact that the Washington Wizards have been downright deplorable the past two seasons. The Wizards have not been the same since John Wall went down with an injury in 2018. After trading for all-star point guard Russell Westbrook from Houston, many thought this team could be a playoff-caliber squad with scoring machines like Beal and Westbrook. That has not been the case as the wizards sit at a sorry 2-6 record.

I have always thought that Bradley Beal was an amazingly gifted scorer in this league, but that doesn’t always translate to wins. Bradley Beal is a complimentary piece to a franchise but is not the guy to lead a team to a championship. He is the Robin to someone’s Batman. Beal and Westbrook together are in the conversation for best backcourt in the NBA, yet they aren’t even being considered a threat. Beal needs to go somewhere that needs a supplementary scorer who doesn’t need to be the primary option.

Some potential scenarios that would benefit beal could include the Dallas Mavericks. Luka Doncic established himself as the main star and MVP candidate. Beal in combination with a healthy Kristaps Porzingis could form a deadly trio. Another scenario could include the Portland Trailblazers. The Blazers could offer CJ McCollum and a couple first-round picks for Beal and add a far better complementary piece to Damian Lillard.

My take would be that Bradley Beal’s talents are most needed in Denver. The Nuggets made the Western Conference Finals last season in the NBA bubble where they challenged the eventual champion Los Angeles Lakers. They have an established superstar center in Jokic that averages near a triple-double and can distribute the ball to others. If you traded Michael Porter Jr., a couple picks, and perhaps a supplementary player this team could form a devastating big-three that could compete with the top teams in the league. While Porter Jr. is a growing star, he is no Bradley Beal. This would push the Nuggets to maybe even be favorites in the West.

What do you think? Can Bradley Beal carry this Wizards Franchise? Where will he fit best? Let me know in the comment section below.

Where is the best head coaching job in the NFL?

It is going to be an interesting offseason for many head coach candidates in the NFL. The obvious front-runner for the next NFL head coaching job is almost unanimously going to be Super Bowl-winning offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, from Kansas City. Often times when there is a head coaching vacancy in the NFL, it is usually for a team that has a long way to go before contending for anything. That is not the case this year. There are a variety of head coaching options in the NFL that provide any candidate tantalizing options to build the team going forward. The best situations that are being talked about would be with the Jacksonville Jaguars who hold the first pick in the Draft which will no doubt go to Trevor Lawerence. The second desirable situation would be the Los Angeles Chargers with likely Offensive Rookie of the Year Justin Herbert.

In most cases, the head coaching option with the first pick in the draft would be the most obvious choice for a new head coach. Having the ability to build your new team around an all-world quarterback like Trevor Lawerence would normally make this a no-brainer choice for a head coaching candidate. The Chargers are making that a difficult choice this year though. The chargers finished the season at 7-9 and have a team loaded with talented players like all-pro receiver Keenan Allen, pro-bowl tight end Hunter Henry, and stud rookie quarterback Justin Herbert. The Chargers were in a position to win most of their ball games, due mostly to Justin Herbert’s stunning ability flinging the football for a staggering 4,336 yards and 31 touchdowns. They just could not seem to close out teams this season in late-game scenarios. Many believe this was due to the poor coaching on the part of now-fired head coach Anthony Lynn.

Many options span even past these two impressive scenarios. There is an opening in Houston where a head coach can acquire a young star in Deshaun Watson who had a career year passing for over 4,000 yards at a 70%  completion rate. Another potential option would be the Jets. New York has the second overall pick in this draft and an additional first-rounder late in the draft. A head coach could really build something special with the numerous draft picks and cap space the franchise holds.

If I were a head coaching candidate I would take the Los Angeles job in a heartbeat. Trevor Lawerence has incredible potential and has been rated higher than any quarterback since Andrew Luck in 2012. You draft guys like Lawerence and hope that they can perform like Justin Herbert just did in LA. The team posses a ridiculous league-leading space in cap room and already has some assets that I mentioned previously. If you could make this Chargers team relevant in LA, that would really create an amazing experience with sports on the West Coast?

What do you think? Did I miss any positions that you would want to have as a head coach? What job would you want? Let me know in the comment section.

Where should Stafford go?

If you are a Detroit fan, these past few years under Head Coach Matt Patricia have been especially tough for the Lions. During his tenure, Matt Patricia’s Lions went a disappointing 13-29-1. Even worse, these are two wasted years of a potential hall-of-fame caliber quarterback in Matthew Stafford. In his career, Stafford has thrown for an impressive 45,109 yards and 286 touchdowns. Even though he has shown amazing streaks of talent, Stafford has never won a playoff game in his tenure with the Lions that spans over a decade now. With the team appearing to make no progress after an anemic 5-11 record this season, it leaves many wondering what the future holds for Matthew Stafford.

In the past, I would have said there was no chance that Stafford would ever leave the franchise he has put up staggering numbers with. After seeing a Carolina franchise let go of a former MVP candidate in Cam Newton and the Chicago Bears trading Khalil Mack, nothing is off the table. The NFL has become far more liberal with dealing players than it has been in recent memory. It is not at all out of the realm of possibility for the Lions to trade their franchise QB to garner draft capital to start a rebuild. What would be the best situation for Stafford.

At the age of 32, Stafford still has a window of opportunity to produce for a team at a high level for a couple seasons. There are some possibilities for the franchise quarterback, some are better than others. The most obvious option would be to stay with the Detroit franchise and become a beloved icon in the state of Michigan, but ultimately never winning a championship. The other option would be for Stafford to be traded to a team that is in dire need of a quarterback.

I think a situation that would be incredibly beneficial for both Stafford and all teams involved would be a trade to New England. While the Patriots missed their first postseason in quite some time, they finished the year with a respectable record of 7-9. This team had multiple defensive players sit out this season and were still able to compete with an almost washed-up Cam Newton at the helm on offense. Stafford could go to a team that has a respectable defense, an established head coach in Bill Bellichick, and the potential to grab some big-time free agents with a new dynamic QB and head coach duo.

There is a litany of other trade scenarios for Stafford. Let me know what you think would be a good situation for the Lions quarterback by leaving a comment down below. Should the lions hold on to him? Can he win a championship?

Should Knicks fans buy into the hype?

Don’t look now, but the New York Knicks are contending in the Eastern Conference. For many Knicks fans, like myself, the past decade has been one of hardship for fans of this storied franchise. The New York Knickerbockers are the third most valuable American sports franchise at a staggering 4.6 billion dollars. Despite their value, this team has not even seen the postseason since 2012. The Knicks have had 8 head coaches in the last decade, and have had no consistency on the roster or management. Things appear to be changing. New York has started the 2020 season with a surprising 5-3 record which sets them at 5th in the Eastern Conference. Knicks fans have had no sense of excitement in this team for almost a decade. One question that many fans like myself are asking is: “Are the Knicks for real?”

The Knicks, in the past, have tried to put together teams quickly with players past their primes (A post-injury Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah) to get big names to get fans to believe that this team could compete. All attempts in the past 8 years have been unsuccessful thus far. I have seen this team struggle for quite some time and I have had plenty of experience with fake hype with this team. This is not one of those times. This time things are different. The Knicks have put together a healthy roster with a young core of players centered around RJ Barrett, Julius Randle, Mitchell Robinson, and Obi Toppin. New Head Coach Tom Thibadeau has brought a new sense of vigor to this young roster and has players competing hard. The Knicks have beaten playoff-caliber teams this season like Milwaukee, Indiana, and Utah. This team will be able to compete and potentially play for a play-in playoff game come postseason.

If this team wants to take the next step, there are a few things they can do. First, they could try to make a move for a top-tier player like James Harden before the trade deadline. This seems unlikely as there would be no real incentive for Harden to stay because they would have lost valuable assets to acquire him. They could also try to keep the team as constructed and continually build out the roster through the draft.

My solution to the Knicks would be to keep everything the same. This team has shown, if nothing else, that they can compete with anyone. This young nucleus of players is going to keep developing. If this team can keep management and this roster consistent, they can keep improving every year as they acquire more talent through the draft. Even though they are not title contenders, New Yorkers should be excited that this team is looking to be on the upswing.

What do you guys think? Are the Knicks for real this year? Should they make a move for a big name? Let me know in the comment section or shoot me an email with your take.

Can Steph Curry take his team to the playoffs?

Stephen Curry is without question one of the NBA’s Premier superstars, and he has proven that yet again after his 62-point outing against the Portland Trailblazers. Curry was in dangerous form putting up 5 rebounds and 4 assists with his big performance. Steph Curry is a 2 time-league MVP and has won three championships with the Golden State Warriors. He is no doubt one of the top point guards in the league, but his team is not going anywhere this season.

In the past, we have seen teams and Dynasties have continued success even past the time of the so-called dynasty. This, however, has not been the case for the Warriors. Last season the Warriors had one of the worst records in the NBA after appearing in the finals the year prior. This was due to the injury problems and crucial losses to the team. Steph broke his hand early in the Season, all-star Klay Thompson tore his ACL in the 2019 NBA finals, and Kevin Durant chose to leave Golden State in free agency in favor of the Brooklyn Nets. Fast forward one year, and the Warriors still don’t have Klay Thompson back. Without him, Steph Curry will put on a show and put up monstrous performances like the one against the Blazers but the Warriors will struggle regardless.

The best solution to the problem would be to get Klay Thompson back from injury and don’t rush him. This season is already a wash for the Warriors as Klay will likely miss the entirety of the season due to injury. Klay Thompson and Steph Curry together form the best and most efficient three-point shooting backcourt in NBA history. Without one of the Splash Brothers, the team does not have the same offensive firepower it once did during their historic 5-consecutive finals runs. They also could try to package Andrew Wiggins and Kelly Oubre Junior for a good starting player that can shoot the three-pointer at a higher level to keep up with Steph’s production from behind the arc. There are no packages that stick out yet because we are so early in the season.

My recommendation to the Warriors would be to try to unload Wiggins and Oubre for a more efficient player that will help relieve some of the almost 100-million dollars in cap space those two eat up. If they can add another shooter to Curry and Thompson, that would create a three-headed monster for Golden State that would no doubt be hard to stop. If they can do that in combination with Klay’s return they can compete for a championship. Until that point, we are all going to have to enjoy performances like these from Curry, because this team is not going to go far without the Splash Brothers both playing.

Am I right on this one? What do you guys think. Will the Warriors upset the nation and be a contender this season. Comment and let me know what you think.

The Eagles are Shattered

This past weekend was a wild one for the NFL as it was the last week of the regular seasons. Teams clamoring for their spot in the postseason. Even teams like Philadelphia, who had an anemic record of 4-11-1, were still in the playoff picture in their last game against the Washington Football team. Part of the reason we love sports is the sense of competition, and the fact that any team could win on any given Sunday. Sadly, it seems that the Philadelphia Eagles, and more specifically Head Coach Doug Pederson, don’t care about the integrity of the game and spirit of competition. In their game against Washington, Doug Pederson sat out Jalen Hurts in favor of their third-string quarterback for the entirety of the fourth quarter, despite only being down by 14 points.

Now in the past, I, like many fans, have suspected some professional sports franchises of “tanking” their seasons in hopes of getting a better pick in the upcoming draft. This situation to me seems like more than that. I have never seen a team blatantly not try to win a game against a divisional rival. The Eagles are in the same division as the Football Team and could have knocked them out of the playoffs if they had won. The only thing that makes sense is that Philadelphia was trying to jump from the number 9 spot in the draft to the sixth spot. The tanking was so blatant that veterans Carson Wentz, Jason Kelce, and Zach Ertz refused to leave the field after the game. They just sat on the bench in awe at what had just transpired. In my experience, that is a sign of a truly fractured locker room. If you are a Philadelphia fan, where do you go from here?

There are a variety of solutions to their problems, and some end prettier than others. One thing is for sure, change is coming and that is gonna be starting with former starting quarterback Carson Wentz. After being benched for Hurtz, the Eagle’s 100-million dollar man requested a trade from the dysfunctional organization. Another solution, which seems like the easiest solution, is to part ways with the Head coach and start with a fresh system and try to reinvigorate the locker room. The last option would be to completely clean house and trade every older asset and fire the entire staff. This measure is drastic but might be what is necessary to fix the obviously broken culture that has been set in Philadelphia.

My recommendation to the Eagles would be to obviously trade Wentz. If you can unload his horrible contract, it would open up options for the team to attract new players with the additional cap space created. I would definitely recommend that Pederson Be let go. You can’t do what Pederson did and stain the integrity of the game for everyone and still be expected to keep that same head coaching job. While yes Pederson won a championship with Philly, that doesn’t make him untouchable. The Eagles need new life in their locker room and someone to be a leader, which is clearly what this team is lacking right now.

What do you guys think? Feel free to comment below and let me know what you think about this situation. Do the Eagles have a problem? Is it time for Doug Pederson to go? You guys can decide.

Steelers fans need to wake up to reality

Living in Pittsburgh, I like some of you, come into contact with many Steelers fans. Even though I am an avid Steelers fan, I am sure there are many of us who have come into contact with those delusional fans that can’t accept the reality of their favorite football team. That reality is simple: the Steelers are overrated.

As a Steelers fan, I have a front row seat to the situation that the football team is currently in. Even though they are sitting at 11-2 right now, that record is incredibly deceptive. First of all, the Steelers have had one of the easiest schedules in the NFL. I’ll include a link that goes over the schedule strength ratings and the Steelers are well near the bottom. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/2020-nfl-strength-of-schedule-rankings-ravens-and-steelers-have-it-easiest-patriots-face-roughest-ride/ After winning eleven games in a row, which is no doubt impressive, the Steelers have hit a massive rough stretch where they have lost two consecutive games against the Washington Football Team and the Buffalo Bills. During those games the Steelers looked incredibly anemic on offense and could not run the ball. They combined for a total of 68 rushing yards in two games. Rushing like that is not going to get it done in the playoffs. Their defense has been riddled with injuries including key playmakers like Devin Bush, Steven Nelson, and Vince Williams to name a few. Even though many experts have admitted that the Steelers look incredibly underwhelming, and could not hold their own against teams like Kansas City and Buffalo, Steelers Nation is still holding onto hope that they are Super Bowl contenders.

What are some solutions to this problem? As far as Steelers fans go, we need to accept that this is not our year, and that we have some improvements to make at the running back position specifically. For the Steelers, they need to use this offseason to make crucial decisions on players like JuJu and James Conner whose contracts are up. They need to draft well and draft some offensive talent at the running back and offensive line. They can try their best in the playoffs, but I just don’t think they have the firepower to get past Kansas City. They are predictable on offense and can’t win having an almost 40 year-old Ben Roethlisberger throwing the ball over 40 times a game.

I recommend that Steelers fans look in the Mirror and realize that we are not the team that some fans think we are. Our wide receivers love making tik tok videos and dancing more than getting results on the field. The sooner we do this, the sooner Pittsburgh management will realize that despite our record, there are still moves that need to be made. This is not our year.

What do you guys think? Drop your thoughts below in the comments. Are Steelers fans overhyping this season? Do they have a chance to go all the way?

James Harden is hurting his trade value

For those of you who follow the NBA, James Harden is one of the most gifted offensive players we have seen in NBA history. Harden has won three scoring titles, league MVP, and has been in the playoffs for 8 consecutive years with the Houston Rockets. The era of James Harden, sadly, is coming to an end in Houston.

After a disappointing 2020, playoff run in the NBA bubble that resulted in a second round out at the hands of the Lakers, Harden decided it was time to jump ship. The Rockets have completely emptied house. They parted ways with GM, head coach, and their two star players.

Naturally, Harden has demanded that he be traded to a title contender like Brooklyn or Philadelphia; however, he has not made things any easier for himself.

After making these demands, Harden skipped preseason training camp in order to party at Lil Baby’s birthday in Atlanta. Harden finally showed up for the second preseason game where he clearly had gained a few pounds and was not in playing shape. My man went from James Harden to James “Soften”.

You would think a guy who was averaging close to thirty points last season would easily garner trade interest that would be beneficial for all parties. That has not been the case due to Harden’s preseason antics previously described and the fact that executives have released that Harden had too much control over the organization.

Right now Harden is not in the most powerful position considering he still has two more years on his contract with the Rockets. Houston is going to hold on to him as long as they possibly can until they get their fair compensation for him.

In the word’s of the late Jerry Bust to a disgruntled Kobe Bryant, “I am not trading the hope diamond for a bunch of smaller diamonds”. That is how the Rockets are going to treat this situation.

If Harden wants to be traded quickly, I suggest that he gets his act together.

My take on this would be that Harden needs to drop a few pounds. My goodness, the man is making 40 million dollars this year and can’t take the time to get in playing shape or utilize his personal chefs and trainers.

The next thing he needs to do is show up to work on time and show that you are not a distressed asset. If teams are going to give up equitable value, you need to show them that they are investing in something that will improve their franchise overall.

If harden can do what he does and average close to 30 points and 7 assists, he might be able to get a team like Brooklyn or Philadelphia to give up some assets to acquire him.

The NBA is all about player empowerment. That empowerment can help or hurt you. James Harden is hurting his value. He needs to prove that he is a reliable, trustworthy and effective asset before any team is willing to give up anything of good value.

Should College Athletes be Paid?

This is a topic that has ravaged the sports world over the past couple decades: should college athletes be paid? In the video above (mind you it is older) a panel of CNN experts in conjunction with basketball player Kareem Abdul-Jabbar discuss this issue. I do not think the issue is as simple as some may make it out to be. This video really highlights the plethora of angles and problems that come with paying and not paying collegiate athletes for their athletic abilities and services.

Let’s get into the crux of the debate here. The NCAA is a committee that decides the rules and regulations for collegiate athletics. The NCAA has deemed that collegiate athletes can’t be paid in order to promote the idea of amateurism. Many people have a problem with this statement when colleges and universities are making billions of dollars from merchandise and tv deals that are only possible because of the services these collegiate athletes are providing. As someone who works with athletes quite frequently, I know this is a hot topic and most athletes are of the mindset that they should be paid for their services. People who oppose this notion say that they are receiving and education that is worth thousands of dollars. Both sides have valid points, which is what makes this debate so hard to settle.

The NCAA just recently in a settlement with the athletes, has allowed athletes to receive profits off their likeness. This is only a temporary fix, many are still dissatisfied with the fact that they are not getting a cut of the billions of dollars of revenue generated for collegiate athletics. It is harder to find a solution that one may think. I have always been in favor of empowering athletes at all levels and allowing them to use their voice to enact change. There is one major issue that I see towards finding a solution. Some sport programs make far more money at some universities than others. For example, a basketball team at a university could make millions of dollars in revenue while there swim team makes only a fraction of that amount. Should the swimmers still be paid? Would the swimmers be ok with only making a fraction of the basketball player’s money? Do they not work as hard or dedicate as much of their time towards their respective sport? That is one thing that many people do not consider when it comes to paying athletes. I am in favor of it, however, there are some specifics that would need to be worked out.

I would recommend that the NCAA try to implement a rule that college athletic programs must pay their athletes, but there is a maximum amount that they could be paid. While some athletes may bring more fans, all athletes would have to be paid the same. This is to avoid any potential unrest or even claims of discrimination against some students or favoritism toward others. This is not completely “fair” but nothing in life is. I would have to think a free education (should you choose to use it), the ability to make money off your likeness, and a set amount of money you can make would have to help alleviate this issue without causing unrest within your team. That is only my recommendation anyway.

I know this is a hot issue in sports. I would love to hear your take on it. Please comment and tell me what you think. Do you agree with me? Or am I completely off on this take?

Don’t forget, if you have any questions or want to debate about my takes shoot me an email. Stay safe, Merry Christmas everyone.
