Living in Pittsburgh, I like some of you, come into contact with many Steelers fans. Even though I am an avid Steelers fan, I am sure there are many of us who have come into contact with those delusional fans that can’t accept the reality of their favorite football team. That reality is simple: the Steelers are overrated.
As a Steelers fan, I have a front row seat to the situation that the football team is currently in. Even though they are sitting at 11-2 right now, that record is incredibly deceptive. First of all, the Steelers have had one of the easiest schedules in the NFL. I’ll include a link that goes over the schedule strength ratings and the Steelers are well near the bottom. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/2020-nfl-strength-of-schedule-rankings-ravens-and-steelers-have-it-easiest-patriots-face-roughest-ride/ After winning eleven games in a row, which is no doubt impressive, the Steelers have hit a massive rough stretch where they have lost two consecutive games against the Washington Football Team and the Buffalo Bills. During those games the Steelers looked incredibly anemic on offense and could not run the ball. They combined for a total of 68 rushing yards in two games. Rushing like that is not going to get it done in the playoffs. Their defense has been riddled with injuries including key playmakers like Devin Bush, Steven Nelson, and Vince Williams to name a few. Even though many experts have admitted that the Steelers look incredibly underwhelming, and could not hold their own against teams like Kansas City and Buffalo, Steelers Nation is still holding onto hope that they are Super Bowl contenders.
What are some solutions to this problem? As far as Steelers fans go, we need to accept that this is not our year, and that we have some improvements to make at the running back position specifically. For the Steelers, they need to use this offseason to make crucial decisions on players like JuJu and James Conner whose contracts are up. They need to draft well and draft some offensive talent at the running back and offensive line. They can try their best in the playoffs, but I just don’t think they have the firepower to get past Kansas City. They are predictable on offense and can’t win having an almost 40 year-old Ben Roethlisberger throwing the ball over 40 times a game.
I recommend that Steelers fans look in the Mirror and realize that we are not the team that some fans think we are. Our wide receivers love making tik tok videos and dancing more than getting results on the field. The sooner we do this, the sooner Pittsburgh management will realize that despite our record, there are still moves that need to be made. This is not our year.
