Where is the best head coaching job in the NFL?

It is going to be an interesting offseason for many head coach candidates in the NFL. The obvious front-runner for the next NFL head coaching job is almost unanimously going to be Super Bowl-winning offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, from Kansas City. Often times when there is a head coaching vacancy in the NFL, it is usually for a team that has a long way to go before contending for anything. That is not the case this year. There are a variety of head coaching options in the NFL that provide any candidate tantalizing options to build the team going forward. The best situations that are being talked about would be with the Jacksonville Jaguars who hold the first pick in the Draft which will no doubt go to Trevor Lawerence. The second desirable situation would be the Los Angeles Chargers with likely Offensive Rookie of the Year Justin Herbert.

In most cases, the head coaching option with the first pick in the draft would be the most obvious choice for a new head coach. Having the ability to build your new team around an all-world quarterback like Trevor Lawerence would normally make this a no-brainer choice for a head coaching candidate. The Chargers are making that a difficult choice this year though. The chargers finished the season at 7-9 and have a team loaded with talented players like all-pro receiver Keenan Allen, pro-bowl tight end Hunter Henry, and stud rookie quarterback Justin Herbert. The Chargers were in a position to win most of their ball games, due mostly to Justin Herbert’s stunning ability flinging the football for a staggering 4,336 yards and 31 touchdowns. They just could not seem to close out teams this season in late-game scenarios. Many believe this was due to the poor coaching on the part of now-fired head coach Anthony Lynn.

Many options span even past these two impressive scenarios. There is an opening in Houston where a head coach can acquire a young star in Deshaun Watson who had a career year passing for over 4,000 yards at a 70%  completion rate. Another potential option would be the Jets. New York has the second overall pick in this draft and an additional first-rounder late in the draft. A head coach could really build something special with the numerous draft picks and cap space the franchise holds.

If I were a head coaching candidate I would take the Los Angeles job in a heartbeat. Trevor Lawerence has incredible potential and has been rated higher than any quarterback since Andrew Luck in 2012. You draft guys like Lawerence and hope that they can perform like Justin Herbert just did in LA. The team posses a ridiculous league-leading space in cap room and already has some assets that I mentioned previously. If you could make this Chargers team relevant in LA, that would really create an amazing experience with sports on the West Coast?
