I know we all want to take a break from our schooling during the summer, but we also don’t want to forget what we learned. Today, I want to talk about how I stay motivated during the summer in between semesters.
At IUP, we get about 3 months off in between the spring and fall semesters. I like to try to stay creative during this period so I am prepared when we go back. I know it can be hard to find time and motivation to do so.
I like to try and create projects that are fun rather than feel like schoolwork. I make things that will be useful too, like ads for my dad’s business. If you know anyone that owns a business (restaurant, store, etc.) as them if they need any printed material or ads designed. I usually offer to do them for free if it’s a small job just to gain experience and have the pieces for my portfolio. Make sure they aren’t things that will take up a ton of your time because you want to have high quality work.
I also like to create craft projects to keep myself going with other studio classes. This helps me be prepared for classes like painting and sculpture. Creating your own paintings is fun because the materials are cheap and you can give them away as gifts.
Always try to stay creative during your time off from school. Don’t overwhelm yourself, but also try to get some more practice in.
Hope you guys learned something today! Share this link and stay tuned for another post tomorrow!
