Professional Resume Tips

I have changed and updated my resume so many times over the past few years. It can be a struggle to create a resume that is both visually appealing and professionally effective. Keep reading for tips on creating your resume.

First, I like to type into a Word document the information I want to include. Then, I can copy and paste what I wrote into my InDesign document. Here is what you should include:
-your name and contact information
– previous experience (include the employer, what you do there, and the starting and end dates)
-education
-your skills that relate to the job you are applying for
-any achievements that relate to your career

These are the main things I like to include. You’ll want to adjust accordingly for your personal needs. Personally, I have two resumes. I have one if I am applying to a graphic design related job and one for communications related jobs. You can see my graphic design resume below.

Always remember to include a cover letter! Many people don’t do this anymore, but it has helped me stand out to employers.

Start making your resume far in advance, even if you don’t need one yet. Giving yourself more time will create a better result.
