Reentry is the word for reconstructing prisoners to go back into the community. Parole systems will instate the inmates to go into reentry programs before they are sent out into the community. Without a reentry program we would have so many more re-offending criminals then we need. We would only be spending more money by sending them out without any reentry and them coming back into the prison system.
Parole can be used in many of good ways to help men and women get back into the shift of the real world. “A 2005 Urban Institute study of data collected by the Bureau of Justice Statistics determined that women, individuals with prior arrests, property offenders, public order offenders, and technical violators (those who violate conditions of community supervision, but do not otherwise commit new crimes), are less likely to be arrested again if they undergo parole supervision at the end of a prison term (Right on Crime)”. When you are released on parole you are placed with a parole officer who has supervision over you, to make sure you are doing everything you should be doing outside of prison. Some inmates might even have to go through some sort of counseling or a substance abuse program.
There are many ways to help offenders get back into the community or back to their regular lives outside of prison. One way is looking at the inmates that would contribute from parole and who wouldn’t. Only letting certain people receive parole. Inmates that committed crimes such as homicide or rape should not be able to receive parole. The ones that should be able to is non-violent inmates. We could also implement GPS tracking onto the individual’s that are on parole. Using this to track their everyday moves and what they are doing when their parole officer isn’t there.
People that are on parole aren’t always easy to deal with. Some are willing to change their life around, and some are just wanting to get back out there and do the same thing they did before the went to prison. I feel as though if you trust the individual and they are showing behavior that they want to change their lives around, they should be able to receive parole. Even if they are non-violent offenders and they go out doing the same thing, they shouldn’t be on the streets. The individuals that are showing change are the ones that deserve it the most.
Not all people on parole are wanting to commit crimes anymore, a lot of them want to change their lives around and become a better person. They are looking to make a better life, not only for themselves but their families too. What are way do you think we can make parole and better and easier way for inmates and parole officers?
