Parental incarceration is a big deal these days as it seems to be happening more often. Parental incarceration is a parent who is in prison and those who are incarcerated lose many of the rights that parents who are not incarcerated have. They do not necessarily lose their right to still be a parent, but they will sometimes lose the power to be engaged with their children like they were before. Do you think that an incarcerated parents’ child will act out and have behavioral problems? Do you believe they will grow up and be incarcerated like their parents? When a child’s parent is incarcerated, that child is six times more likely to become incarcerated themselves.
When a child/children’s parents are incarcerated, it brings challenges and difficulties to the children. Most kids with incarcerated parents will have harder problems in school which could lead to suspension or at the most expulsion from their school. Depending on the situation, it is hard to predict how a kid will take the pain when a parent is incarcerated. If a child is closer to the parent, then it will be much harder to help the child cope with the pain of being taken away from his parents.

I personally have not had to experience a parent being incarcerated, but truly I would never want to. In my opinion, having an incarcerated parent is difficult, but sometimes it is better for the child/children if the parent is in jail. Yes, the children could be tossed into foster care or even a foster home. I believe that it may be better for the child/children to be in a foster home compared to being at home with a parent who is getting into crime and putting the children in danger.
Having a parent that is incarcerated can be very difficult on young children and adolescents. Not being able to seem them or have that mother/father figure around to keep them in line. Do you think incarcerated parent’s should be able to have more time with their children? During visitation should they get longer times to be able to be an active parent and help to see their children succeed. Please, like, comment, share, and subscribe!
