Domestic Violence is a well-known problem today in our society. Most people will believe that men normally cause domestic violence, but women also have a role in this issue. This is a hidden problem that cannot be ignored. It can happen to any age or gender. Did you know that domestic violence isn’t always physical abuse? No one, man or woman, should be afraid of someone whom they know.

Domestic violence cannot only be harmful to the individual but their families too. They tend to lose contact with family and isolate themselves. They not only lose hope but they start to not believe that they are good enough. People who deal with domestic violence have a high rate of suicide also. Growing up with domestic violence is making people 6x more prone to suicide and also 50% of domestic violence survivors turn to drugs and alcohol.

There are many ways to try and solve the problem of domestic violence. Within this we need to look at not only the short-term but the long-term approach. One way is learning the signs of domestic violence. Learning the different kinds of domestic violence and how one may look or act while dealing with it. Letting people know of the different programs that are here to help. We also need to focus on helping these people when they leave the home. This is when they are the most vulnerable.

In my opinion, domestic violence is a big concern and I really do hope that someday there will be a way for us to stop this. Nobody should be afraid of their significant other or someone that they know. There are several of people out there who are willing to help with victims of domestic violence. Being physically abused is one issue but there is also verbal abuse and sometimes verbal abuse will cause depression and anxiety which is hard to deal with.

It’s hard to believe that people go through these types of things every day. We sometimes see them walking down the street, with a huge smile on their face not even knowing that these things are happening behind closed doors. What is your opinion on domestic violence?
