Could you ever imagine doing something so bad that you could be put to death over it? Imagine being put to death by lethal injection, and then months later them finding out you didn’t actually commit those crimes. The death penalty is a very serious and common thing that happens now-a-days. In 29 U.S. states, the death penalty is legal. As of 2019, 22 people were killed by the death penalty and 34 were sentenced.
In today’s world many people are saying that it’s helping deter crime, but research is saying that the places where the death penalty is the highest (in the South) that the murder rates are even higher. The common concerns with the death penalty is that we are sentencing innocent people to death. Another common concern with the death penalty is the cost. The cost of the death penalty is about $308 million per inmate. Ultimately it cost around $250,000 to have an individual in prison without the possibility of parole.
One way to solve this problem is to looking into who actually should die. I feel as though we are killing people for absolutely any reason we can. The people that “deserve to die” are people such as mass murderers or terrorist. Another way is by looking more into if they are actually guilty or not. We aren’t always “convinced” that the person did it, but if it is coming down to the death penalty they should know beyond reasonable doubt.
I believe that the death penalty is a good thing for our country. The only way that I believe that it is an actual good thing, is if the person is the right person convicted. We aren’t here to kill people for no reason, we are here to make sure our communities are a safer place. Terrorist and mass murderers, like stated above are the ones that deserve to receive the death penalty. We aren’t out her to kill innocent people, we need to know for sure that these people committed these heinous crimes.
So, when it comes to the death penalty, what is your opinion? Do you believe that people should receive the death penalty if they killed many? Should we just ignore it, let people rot in prison, and spend even more money to keep them in there for long periods of time? As always, like, comment, share, and subscribe!
