Slave Narratives through Voyant Tool

First of all, I want to tell you my story in using Voyant. When I reveal two texts, I didn’t have the words that i want in the picture which are the key words of these two texts. The problem is that I think I couldn’t add them as  could take out some of the words that I don’t like. I loved to present these two novels The Narratives of the Life of Frederick Douglass, and Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl to see how slavery, freedom, and abolition cab be visualized. These two novels are narratives that were written by the authors themselves.

In this chart, we so how much the word “slavery” mention in both novels. it is clear that Douglass uses “slavery” more than Harriet  Jacobs.

chart-3

For the opposite word, which is “freedom”, I see how these two writers mention them very similarly. WHY? because the characters Linda Brent, and Frederick Douglass are seeking for the same thing which is “freedom”.

chart-4

The word “abolition” is mentioned in Douglass’s narrative more than Incidents. WHY? because Frederick Douglass is the leader of this movement. And that movement happened after the novel publication 1845.

chart-5

As the slaves were suffering from the abuse whatever its kind, I tried to search about this word. So, “abuse” is decreasing sharply in Douglass’s narratives. WHY? perhaps, the main character of incidents is female that receives so much of abuse, or may be it is a something that is relation to the time periods.
