Your Professional Portfolio.

This post will be different because I would like to discuss portfolios. A portfolio is designed to be a collection of your work that is supposed to show potential employers how awesome you are. It is very easy to get an interview and fumble it because you were not prepared to show off your work. By creating a portfolio, you will show others that you are a professional and that you have what it takes to demonstrate the skills that employers would like to see.

It is very important to carefully pick out what types of work that you should include in your portfolio. This is because your portfolio is supposed to be a showcase for your most impressive work. You should also include your best works that you are proud of near the beginning because there are many employers who will not take the time and fully appreciate all of your work, and it can also help to sort your works into categories so an employer’s search through your portfolio can be even more successful. This is beneficial because if you would like to apply to a specific position where a special type of work is needed to be done, you don’t have to stress by re-organizing your file. When working on any type of project, it is important to be cognizant of the work you are doing, you should never produce mediocre work because it will only make your portfolio look even worse if you include it. It is important to always have a copy of a physical portfolio if possible; however, many employers are becoming fond of online portfolios, usually in the form of a personal website. There are many inexpensive and even free options to help you get started with making your portfolio the absolute best that it can be.

Even if you are only focused on one field, and I hope it is audio, if any, you should include different types of work in your professional portfolio. This is because employers love to see prospective employees who are capable of varying roles. Also, it should be noted that the additional listed experience can lead you to some interesting opportunities down the road. As you continue to produce additional projects, it is important to not forget to update your portfolio and discard any work that will become inadequate as time passes and your skills increase.

Eventually, when the time comes, you will be ready to kill your interview because you have taken the steps needed to produce a professional portfolio that showcases your amazing skills. Remember to always take the extra steps to help increase your production skills and with that being said, are you familiar with professional portfolios?
