What Is Audio Production

What is audio production? What does a sound engineer do?  In this blog, I am going to help explain what an audio engineer is responsible for depending on their position! An audio engineer helps to produce a recording or a live performance, balancing and adjusting sound sources using equalization, dynamics processing and audio effects, mixing, reproduction, and reinforcement of sound. Audio engineers work on the technical aspect of recording, the placing of microphones, the setting of levels. The recording of any project is typically always done by an engineer.

Since you are here, I thought that it would be a great idea to make a general post just about audio and sound engineers considering that most of my blog revolves around audio production. Sound engineering over time has been becoming increasingly considered as a creative profession because of how sound and technology is used to produce their products. Some of the work that would be common for a sound engineer to deal with film, radio, television, and even video games. Audio engineers are also responsible for setting up, performing sound checks, and live sound adjustments through a mixing console or sound reinforcement for a variety of events such as concerts, sporting events, and even corporate events!

Many people; however, probably recognize an audio engineer by their work in the recording studio environment. A sound engineer in a recording studio will be responsible for many things and these include records, edits, mixes, or mastering sound by technical means to provide what  the artist and record producer are specifically looking for. While usually associated with music production, an audio engineer deals with sound for a variety of reasons and some of them include, including post-production for video and film, live sound reinforcement, advertising, multimedia, and broadcasting. In some of the much larger productions, an audio engineer is responsible for all of the technical aspects of a sound recording or other audio production.
