Do you have trouble staying motivated to work on your projects? As someone who would consider themselves a professional procrastinator, if your answer was yes, then you are not alone. There have been a plethora of times where I was supposed to work on a project however, because of my lack of motivation, this became an issue. It turns out that many people have similar issues. It can be a daunting task to manage your extracurriculars, classes, homework and projects, and for some this even includes working a job. However, there are a few tricks that I have learned over the years that are quite effective in keeping your responsibilities from becoming very stressful.
I have always had a tremendous amount of difficulty when it comes to managing my workload and staying on top of things. It is essential to develop a plan when you receive work and your schedule. An easy trick that I have learned many years ago is writing my tasks and responsibilities down. The reason that I believe this is an effective motivator is because you have turned a task into something tangible through a checklist and when it physically exists it is much easier to commit to the task. One thing that causes me trouble is making plans with friends. Instead of blindly committing to plans that your friends make, make your own plans and fully commit yourself to your work, when the work is completed, make it a point to reward yourself with some fun time. Another great way to help stay on top of your work is to schedule periods of time in which you must dedicate yourself to your responsibilities, and I find it to be very helpful to also schedule multiple of these. The reason that it may be beneficial for you to schedule multiple time slots for yourself is because you can complete your work in increments so it is not all saved for a single dreadful sitting. This is particularly useful for those of you that may struggle with procrastinating.
You will lead a far more fulfilling life and you will be much happier if you can effectively stay motivated to get your work done and stay organized. Remember, that it is alright to set goals to reward yourself and in fact is highly encouraged. Also, don’t be afraid to reach out and talk to someone, they’re people who will help you. Your education is very important, but so is your mental health? Would you consider yourself a professional procrastinator? Ask me about what topics you would like to hear about in the future.
I will catch you in the next one. Stay Classy!
