Do you use social media? Well, you should and if you don’t, you should stop reading right now and go set some accounts up! When dealing with our communications major, it should be noted that social media plays a very large role in our fields regardless of your focus. Since we discussed social media a couple of weeks ago, I thought that it would be a great idea to make a post dedicated to social media considering just how important that it is for acquiring that cozy media industry career that we are looking for. Here are a couple of tips, tricks, and just straight up facts to help you use social media like a pro!
A problem that many people face is getting the attention of people on social media. It is crucial that you can identify your target audience that way you can narrow down the type of content that you should be producing. I used to struggle with social media because I used to barely post on any platform. This can actually really hurt you in the long run because it does not look great to have a very small digital footprint especially when it comes to the media industry. With that being said, it is also a bad look if you over post on social media, the key is to simply just exist on the platform and actually contribute and participate with the community.
Another feature concerning social media that can be overlooked is its ability to potentially find you a meaningful career. More and more people are getting their jobs from an online source; however, making these mistakes on social media can follow you for a very long time. The biggest mistake that is made by people on social media is simply posting inappropriate content. It is not uncommon for prospective employers to do their research on your social media accounts. As I previously said, it is highly recommended to create a footprint online for yourself if you already haven’t. Are you active on social media? With how much we use our social media, it is no surprise that there are those who seek to do more harm than good. This is why your online security is crucial and it is very important to practice safe online hygiene and become cautious with your activity over the internet because people will try and steal valuable information or money from you if you are not careful enough and in some very extreme cases, identity theft could be an issue. Your internet presence and security is very important, and you will need to learn to take care of both of them. I really hope that you have found this information useful and will use it to better yourself within this fantastic digital world. How exactly have you been using social media?
