The Digital Mixer. Considerations to Make for Your Set-Up.

Why would you want to use a digital mixer? While the digital mixer has many benefits over the digital mixer, it is slowly becoming more and more dated. Digital mixers are definitely considered more popular because of their smaller size and an increased number of features. I have had the opportunity to use both types of mixers; however, I am definitely more fond of the digital model for a variety of reasons. Similar to my analysis of the analogue mixer, I will provide some pros and cons of the digital mixer to better inform you and help you make the best decision when choosing a mixer and help you differentiate both of them.

When I first started experimenting with different mixers, I started with the analogue model. When I used the digital mixer, I was overwhelmed by all of the additional features that I wasn’t used to having with my analogue machine. However, with an increase in technology comes an increase in issues to deal with. Most of these issues have been ironed out in the past, but I would like to point out some of the issues and benefits that you’ll find.

One downside to digital mixers is they are extremely confusing; they have many different switches, buttons, and dials that make them not new user friendly. While customization is a benefit, to create customized effects, you need to make adjustments to every channel. This isn’t an outright downside; it should be noted that these actions create a drastic increase in time when it comes to audio production. One final downside to digital mixers is that they are far more expensive when compared to its analogue counterparts.

Digital mixers are usually easier to find and more readily available due to their increased popularity. So, why should you choose a digital mixer? Since digital mixers have greater capabilities, they are usually far more customizable, thus giving more options, and in turn are a far better choice than those who are creatively inclined. Unlike analogue models, you can connect more devices which allows you to accomplish feats such as recording multiple instruments at the same time and having multiple hosts on a podcast. Possibly the greatest benefit that digital mixers provide is that they allow for clean digital audio transfers. Since the information is processed digitally, this avoids the white noise, buzzing, and other various sounds that are usually caused by recording.

When it comes to deciding whether or not to invest in either a digital or analogue mixer, there are a few things that you need to consider when it comes to making that final decision. The first thing that you need to consider is the level of skill you feel comfortable at. Another factor that is worth considering is the amount of external devices that you are thinking about connecting and whether or not there are going to be several hosts.
