Hello and welcome to my new series where I talk about different types of advertising. Today’s topic will cover food advertising. We have all seen commercials or ads containing food, such as McDonald’s, Arby’s, Taco Bell, Olive Garden, Red Lobster, etc. Have you ever wondered how they come up with their advertising techniques to get the right audience hooked? Keep reading to find out how.
There are eight different ways food companies advertise to get their audience to buy their product. First, they use “visual storytelling”. This includes using emotional pulls and real people during the commercials or ads. This will help people feel like they are a part of what the ad is trying to tell them. If the audience feels an emotional connection, then this will make it more likely for them to want to buy the product. Second is “choosing your colors carefully”. According to neilpatel.com, “food and drink brands often use red, blues, oranges, and greens”. Red makes people associate the color with appetite, green with health, and yellow with serotonin. The color blue is often associated with sadness.
Next is “show your brand’s voice and personality”. This includes using a slogan and having something that only your company uses. An example would be the “bell” from Taco Bell, “we have the meats” from Arby’s, “tall, grande, vente, and triente” from Starbucks for their drink sizes, etc. The fourth way is “research each platform for advertising”. If you are a fast-food chain, you would want your company to be advertised somewhere people would get hungry easily. This would include an airport, any sports event, a billboard on a long highway, etc. Find out which social platform will work best for what audience you are trying to reach. You should pick a platform where people can see the ad every time they are on the homepage. This would include Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, etc.
The fifth way is to “engage with your audience”. This is a very helpful way to advertise because it makes the audience feel included. Hold contests to get people involved, ask customers what they would like to see next that way you can release new items that you know they will love, or make it a monthly deal where maybe once a month you offer a discount on a different item to keep people waiting and guessing on what will be on sale next. The next way is to “keep ahead of trends”. You will want to appear on the top when it comes to people searching for where to eat. You can do this by “knowing what is hot in an effective way to boost your sales”. Keeping up with the trends will help you reach the younger audience because they will understand what you are talking about.
The seventh way is “make it personal”. Tell the audience how you came up with the idea for your business. If your business is a family business tell the customers how you started it. This will help the audience feel more included and help them know that you made this company for a greater good. The last way is “tell your customers what to do next”. Encourage them to get online and follow your company to know when you are having a special deal. Tell them to sign up for rewards or to get emails for the new menu items.
In conclusion, food advertising is a great way to get people hooked because everyone eats. In this blog I have explained how to get the right audience hooked.
