Making and Using Tiktok

Hello and welcome to my third blog. This blog is titled: Making and Using Tiktok. If you have been keeping up with my blog posts, then you have noticed that I have mentioned Tiktok in each one so far. Now, you will get to see what the big deal is about it. Tiktok was released in September of 2016. I will help you create an account, personalize it, and walk you through how to use the app itself.

First, we will start with creating an account. When you first get the app, it will bring you to a page where you can either log in or sign up. If you don’t have an existing account yet, you will need to sign up and make one. When you click “sign up” you will be taken to a page where it will ask you for your birthday. This won’t be shown publicly but it is needed to help the app know what is appropriate to be shown. Next you will be asked to sign up with either your phone number or email. Either way you sign up, you will have to verify it and put in a six-digit code. Once you verify the method you used, it will take you to another page where you will have the option to create a password and username. If you do not make your own username, then Tiktok will make one for you using “user” followed by a list of random numbers. Then, it will give you the option to pick some topics that interest you. Once you’re finished, you will have created an account.

Now that you have an account, you can access everything. For right now I will tell you how you can customize your account. When you click “edit profile”, which is found in the “profile” tab, you can add a profile photo and/or video. This can be used for a personal or business account. If it is a business account, you can add a picture of your logo, building, product, team, etc. You can also change your name and username if you would like. Below your username, it has a link so you can copy it and share your Tiktok to other socials for people to find. Tiktok gives you the option to add your pronouns as well. Along with Instagram and Pinterest, Tiktok allows you to add a bio for you to tell people what your account or profile includes. If you would like to add a nonprofit organization to your account, you can do this by clicking right under the ‘’bio’’ option. This is also where you have the option to have people donate to many different organizations. Lastly, you can add your Instagram and/or YouTube socials to your profile.

Finally, I will tell you how to use most of the Tiktok features. Once you access the app, it will bring you to the “for you” page. This is where it plays videos recommended for you and is why you were asked to pick topics that interest you at the beginning. On the video, it will have the user that posted it and a caption. On the right there is the person’s profile picture and if you tap it, you can view their profile. You can also click the “+” on their picture and follow them. Below that is a heart so you can either tap that or double tap the video to like it. The third button is comments. The fourth is a “ribbon” icon for you to add the videos to your “favorites”. Lastly on the list is the “arrow” icon pointing to the right which lets you send the video to your friends. In the bottom right corner is the “sound” that is used during the video. You can use the same sound by clicking on it. On the top left is the “live” button. This is where you can watch lives from people with 1,000 or more followers. The top buttons include the ‘’for you” page, which we have just went over, and the “following” tab which is just videos from people you are following. On the top right is the search button, which is where you can search for videos, users, topics, etc.

Now we will go over the tabs at the bottom. The first one is “home” which is where we just were. The next tab is “friends” which is videos that include just people who you mutually follow. The middle tab is how you create and post Tiktok videos. The fourth tab is your “inbox” which is your notifications and messages combined. Lastly is your profile tab where you can find your account.

Thank you for reading my blog. I hope you enjoyed reading and learning more about Tiktok. Hopefully you decide to download the app and try it for yourself. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me on any of my socials linked on my home page.
