Hello and welcome to today’s blog: How to Create and use Pinterest. This will explain how to create an account, customize your account, and how to use most of the tools that you see on Pinterest. The app, Pinterest, was released in January of 2010. If you read my last post you will notice that Instagram was released in the same year, but Pinterest came first. I hope you find this helpful and start your own after this!
We will start with how to create a Pinterest account. First, open the app and click “sign up”. From there you will be prompted to enter your email. This will help you sign into your account in the future. It will also be used as part of your username. Next, you will have to create a password. This is also used to help you log in for the future. Then, it will ask you for your age and gender. This information is used “to help find more relevant content”. Now you are almost done creating your account. Lastly, Pinterest will welcome you and have you pick five or more topics so they can help find content to put on your explore page that is recommended for you. These topics include drawings, quotes, wallpapers, fitness and exercise, animals, and much more.
Next, we will move on to how to customize your account profile. In the profile settings you can add a profile picture. If you have a business account then you can add your logo, a picture of your building, a picture of your product, or something else. You can also change your name that everyone will see. This can be your real name, a business, a product, and more. Also in the settings is a place called “about”. Here, as Pinterest says, you can “tell your story”. This is where you can add a bio and put anything you want people to know about yourself or business. Next, you can add a website. This is where you can link your business onto your profile for more people to find. There has also been a “pronouns” option added to your account. Lastly, your username is at the very bottom. You can change your username, but it must be one that is unique and the only one on the app. This is so people can find your account easier.
Now, we will go over how to use Pinterest. Once you open the app, you will be brought to your home feed or “browse”. This is where all the topics you picked will come in handy. If you are a business, this is a great way to put an ad on people’s home feed and be found more easily. It loads your page with pictures, videos, gifs, ads, clothes, shopping and more things that Pinterest thinks you will like. For example, if you pick the topic “fitness and exercise” then it might fill your page with pictures of workout plans, clothes, people working out, etc. If you find that you like a picture or video, you can long hold on to it and move your finger to the “save” or “pin” button which is the icon of a pushpin. If you don’t want to see any pictures or videos like this move your finger to the “hide” button which is the icon of an eye with a line through it. Lastly, if you want to send it to a user on Pinterest, you can move your finger to the send button which is the icon of an underscore with the arrow pointing up.
At the top left is an icon of a TV. This is called “Pinterest TV”. You can watch present or past lives here. As mentioned earlier, there is a “browse” option. This is located at the top as well as a “watch” option right next to it. This is where you can watch short videos based on your interests similar to Tiktok. At the bottom there are five tabs. The first one is your home tab which is what we just went over. The next tab is “search”. This is where, believe it or not, you can search for inspiration, accounts, or any topic. The third tab is “create”. If you want to post a picture, video, or anything this is where you would go. The fourth tab is “notifications”. This is where you will get updates about your account or Pinterest as a whole. This is also where you can click the tab at the top to see your messages. Pinterest allows you to message anyone by email or username. The last tab is “saved”. You can access your account and view the pins you have saved.
I hope this blog helped you learn how to achieve your skills in creating an account and using Pinterest. This is a great way to let people see and learn about your business. This is not everything that is on Pinterest, but it is a good start to get your business or personal account up and running. Thank you for reading my blog! If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to message me on any of my accounts linked on the home page.
