League of Legends – Gangplank

01/07/2021 - Posts

Another tough character to play is gangplank.  Season 11 has given many paths that G.P can build.  GP seems to be an under used champion that has gotten buffed due to season 11.  What should I build vs. composition X?  How should I utilize my ult?  How do I use the barrel combo?

When I first started using Gangplank, I had no clue what to build.  Some people take him lethality, tank, and even ability power.  I also failed at lining up his barrels before the enemy team could clear them.  I would use Gangplank’s W as a heal.  I would ult my lane when I had an all in ready.

Different compositions call for different builds.  If they are tanks, try to build large amounts of percent armor penetration.  Squishes are taken care of with building lethality and bruiser require a mixture of both.  Using Gangplank’s ultimate on your own lane is alight if it guarantees the kill.  Normally two barrels is enough to get most people.

Q – PARRRLEY

W – REMOVE SCURVY

E – POWDER KEG

R – CANNON BARRAGE

Most teams have a mixture of tanks, bruisers, and squishes.  Building lethality will almost always been useful.  Holding onto your ultimate until another lane needs help is probably best.  It is an easy way to get kills and assists while keeping your teammates ahead of their lane.  Two barrels is normally enough to hit the people you want to.  Occasionally, a quick third barrel can be placed while the explosion of the first two takes place.  This allows targets who anticipate only two barrels to be hit.  The only downside is it costs most of your barrels and in the early game, that is a long cooldown.
