About Sundress Publications
Sundress Publications is an entirely volunteer-run 501(c)3 nonprofit publishing collective founded in 2000 that hosts a variety of online journals and publishes chapbooks, full-length collections, and literary anthologies in both print and digital formats. Sundress also publishes the annual Best of the Net Anthology, celebrating the best work published online, and the Gone Dark Archives, preserving online journals that have reached the end of their run.

About the Internship
The editorial internship position will run from January to May, 2017 with a chance to be renewed for summer. The editorial intern’s responsibilities can include writing press releases, composing blogs, proofreading manuscripts, helping to run social media sites (Facebook, WordPress, etc.), collating editorial data, and more. The intern may also be responsible for assisting with researching grant opportunities, writing copy, conducting interviews with Sundress authors, and promoting our catalog of titles.

While this is an unpaid internship, all interns will gain real-world experience in the ins and outs of independent publishing with a nationally recognized press while creating a portfolio of work for future employment opportunities. Interns will also be able to attend all workshops at the Sundress Academy for the Arts at cost.

*Applicants are welcome to telecommunicate and therefore are not restricted to living in the Knoxville area.

Preferred qualifications

  • A keen eye for proof-reading
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Knowledge of contemporary literature a plus

Lit Studies Intern

Eligibility
English majors and minors who are in good academic standing (minimum 3.0 GPA).

Duties

  • Work with faculty to establish a Lit Studies web page to promote the program and individual courses.
  • Organize a blog, facebook page, and twitter account to promote discussion about favorite books and writers, other possible events, or ask questions.
    Work with the English Club to provide club’s focus.
  • Work to organize casual meetings with published writers.
  • Attend lit nights organized by EGO.
  • Organize group attendance at IUP Theater
  • Work to invite guest writers or scholars to campus.
  • Share ideas for preferred course content.

Alumni Stories Intern, Recruitment Committee

Applicants must be English majors or minors with an interest in alumni outreach, PR, and/or event organizing  and a minimum 3.0 GPA. (Applicants who do not meet these requirements are also welcome to contact the coordinator with their qualifications.)

Duties
The Alumni Stories Intern will undertake the following tasks:

  • Compose promotional materials to solicit stories from alumni.
  • Identify points of contact with alumni.
  • Collect stories from individual alumni.
  • Compose and administer surveys collecting data on alumni experiences.
  • Coordinate alumni events.
  • Liaise with IUP alumni representative.
  • Keep weekly work log.
  • Submit internship portfolio at semester’s end.

Objectives

  • Develop a Best Practices Guide for social media promotion.

  • Submit an internship portfolio at semester’s end.
