The Importance of Routine

A frequent problem I see is the lack of a daily routine. After viewing my first blog posts, we now understand the benefits of proper nutrition management and we also know the importance of exercising. However, how do we take this information and incorporate it into our daily lives? No worries, I will try to help! Beware, the process can more difficult than you might imagine. You might be asking yourself, “How does someone botch their daily routine?” Even though there are probably many ways this can happen, let me explain two ways I regularly see it.

The Over Worker – The over worker is a person who overworks each week and becomes extremely exhausted. This can happen for several reasons. One reason could be that work, family, and other house chores take up most of their time. Another is when people unintentionally schedule too much exercise for one day and their body cannot handle it.

The Under Worker – The under worker is a person who does much less work than their schedule allows. Although this is not as problematic as overworking, it can certainly low progress. I see this take place when people stay up too late at night. Late nights usually call for sleeping in the next day. Next, they go straight to work or school. Once they finish, they have little to no time to exercise!

To fix these problems, Health Cop has a few recommendations. 1: examine your goals. 2: figure out how much time you will need for exercise and healthy cooking. 3: find the free time in your schedule and use it to help yourself. You must be realistic with yourself when examining your goals and time!

It can be tough to teach someone to get into a routine. Every single person is different! Consider yourself lucky if you have a permanent work schedule. Many people have jobs with alternating shifts. Therefore, their routine changes almost every day. This is completely up to you. If you are feeling overly exhausted, do not quit! Simply reevaluate your expectations. Workouts (and meal preparation) should be enjoyable! For example, consider a person wanting to gain 30 pounds of muscle in several months. This requires a great deal of meal prep and gym time. If they only have an hour of free time each day, they might become frustrated trying to gain those 30 pounds in several months. Likewise, consider a person trying to lose a lot of weight in a very short amount of time. They will need plenty of time to both exercise and eat healthy. If they are always on the go, it can be problematic. Their lifestyle may not allow for a drastic drop in weight. In conclusion, we want the process to be enjoyable. There is no need to rush your goals!

This may seem like common sense, but it is something even I overlooked in the beginning stages of my journey. Follow these recommendations. Examine your goals and you will prevent over or under working yourself. This will certainly set you on the perfect track to support your new lifestyle!
